INEL 4146. IONOSPHERIC RADIO WAVES<br />
PROPAGATION. Three credit hours. Three hours<br />
of lecture per week. Prerequisite: INEL 4152.<br />
Introduction to magnetoionic theory of ionospheric<br />
radio wave propagation; physics of the ionosphere;<br />
the dispersion equation in the ionosphere; ray<br />
theory; nonlinear processes and discussion of some<br />
ionospheric experiments.<br />
INEL 4151. ELECTROMAGNETICS I. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisites: (MATE 3063 or MATE 3185) and<br />
(FISI 3172 or FISI 3162). Co-requisite: MATE<br />
4009.<br />
Static and time-varying electric and magnetic<br />
fields; dielectric, magnetic and conducting<br />
materials; capacitance, inductance and<br />
conductivity; magnetic circuits; dielectric and<br />
magnetic hysteresis; Maxwell's equations; wave<br />
equation.<br />
INEL 4152. ELECTROMAGNETICS II. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisites: MATE 4009 and INEL 4151.<br />
Maxwell equations and the wave equation; plane<br />
electromagnetic waves in dielectric and conducting<br />
media; energy flow and the Poynting vector; wave<br />
polarization, reflection, refraction and diffraction.<br />
Guided waves; transmission lines; conductive and<br />
dielectric wave guides; Smith chart; impedance<br />
matching, cavity resonators; single antenna.<br />
INEL 4201. ELECTRONICS I. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisites: INEL 3105 and (FISI 3172 or FISI<br />
3162).<br />
Semiconductor device characteristics;<br />
semiconductor diodes, bipolar junction transistors<br />
and field effect transistors; analysis of basic digital<br />
circuits; analysis and design considerations of<br />
transistor amplifiers; introduction to integrated<br />
circuits.<br />
INEL 4202. ELECTRONICS II. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INEL 4201 and INEL 4102.<br />
Analysis and design of multi-stage amplifiers, wave<br />
generation and power circuits; operational amplifier<br />
characteristics and applications.<br />
INEL 4205. LOGIC CIRCUITS. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INGE 3016. Co-requisite: INEL<br />
4201.<br />
Boolean algebra, its theorems and postulates.<br />
Design of combinational circuits; minimization and<br />
reduction techniques, use of medium or large scale<br />
integration (MSI/LSI) in digital circuit design;<br />
analysis and design of sequential circuits; practical<br />
design considerations.<br />
INEL 4206. MICROPROCESSORS. Three credit<br />
hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisite: INEL 4205 and INEL 4201.<br />
Architecture, organization and operation of<br />
microprocessors and their supporting devices;<br />
design of microprocessor-based systems.<br />
INEL 4207. DIGITAL ELECTRONICS. Three<br />
credit hours. Three hours of lecture per week.<br />
Prerequisites: INEL 4201 and INEL 4205.<br />
Theory of operation of transistor-transistor logic<br />
(TTL) and metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS)<br />
gates; operation of semiconductor memories;<br />
programmable logic arrays (PLA); operational<br />
amplifiers; multivibrators; analog gates; analog to<br />
digital (A/D) and digital to analog (D/A)<br />
converters.<br />
INEL 4211. ELECTRONICS LABORATORY I.<br />
One credit hour. One three-hour laboratory per<br />
week. Prerequisites: INEL 4115. Co-requisite:<br />
INEL 4201.<br />
Experiments with basic amplifiers and digital<br />
circuits. Design and testing of simple electronic<br />
circuits.<br />
INEL 4212. ELECTRONICS LABORATORY II.<br />
One credit hour. One three-hour laboratory per<br />
week. Prerequisites: INEL 4211. Co-requisite:<br />
INEL 4202.<br />
Experiments and projects with electronic circuits<br />
emphasizing their design.<br />
INEL 4215. COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE<br />
AND ORGANIZATION. Three credit hours.<br />
Three hours of lecture per week. Prerequisite:<br />
INEL 4206.<br />
Architectural aspects of general purpose computers:<br />
instruction sets, addressing modes, data types,<br />
registers, support for programming languages and<br />
operating systems. Comparative study of<br />
commercial architectures. Organizational aspects<br />
of general purpose computers: central processing<br />
unit, control unit, microprogramming, arithmetic<br />
and logic units, memory systems, input/output<br />
systems.<br />
