EDUCATION<br />
The Agricultural Education Department offers a<br />
program leading to the degree of Bachelor of<br />
Science in Agriculture with majors in<br />
Agricultural Education or Extension Education.<br />
These programs prepare students for teaching<br />
agriculture and agricultural extension, and also<br />
for educational and public relations work related<br />
to agriculture in federal and state agencies,<br />
business, commerce, and industry. Employment<br />
in these positions requires agricultural<br />
experience, preparation in basic sciences and<br />
technical agriculture, and understanding of the<br />
principles and techniques of the teachinglearning<br />
process as well as the ability to work<br />
with people.<br />
Graduates from this department may qualify to<br />
teach vocational agriculture upon completion of<br />
the program of study which includes supervised<br />
teaching (courses EDAG 4018-4019) and other<br />
courses required for certification to teach in the<br />
school system of Puerto Rico. Those who<br />
register for courses EDAG 4018-4019, must<br />
have a 2.00 GPA or better, authorization from<br />
the head of the department, and may be required<br />
to take certain physical and psychological<br />
examinations and meet other admission criteria.<br />
Graduates in Extension Education may qualify to<br />
enter extension and other related educational and<br />
public service jobs.<br />
