2.23 In total, 3,598 police officers were deployed on the <strong>Carnival</strong> Sunday and a total of 5,173<br />
officers were deployed on the Bank Holiday Monday at <strong>Carnival</strong> 2001, representing an<br />
increase of 1,357 officers from <strong>Carnival</strong> 2000. An officer was also seconded to NHCT to<br />
contribute to and assist in the overall planning and implementation of the stewarding<br />
operation. By way of comparison with other major events in London, in a recent report to the<br />
Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA) 58 , the MPS presented the following cost implications of<br />
public order events held throughout 2001 and the May Day Demonstrations in 2002:<br />
