Holland and Germany they are almost exclusively recent publications. This<br />

volume has more extensive manuscript annotations at the end, comment<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on Sp<strong>in</strong>oza’s Clef de Sanctuaire, the bogus French title under which his Tractatus<br />

theologico-politicus circulated <strong>in</strong> France s<strong>in</strong>ce 1678 (see Israel, Radical<br />

Enlightenment, pp. 302–304).<br />

III. This catalogue was prepared by the Wrm of Daniel Horthemels<br />

(16??–1691), and oVers some four thousand Wve hundred titles, published<br />

<strong>in</strong> diVerent cities of Europe between 1529 and 1688. Individual sections are<br />

entitled theology, miscellaneous, medic<strong>in</strong>e and law, followed by French,<br />

Spanish and Italian books. Newton’s Pr<strong>in</strong>cipia is <strong>in</strong>cluded, as are other important<br />

texts. The French books are predom<strong>in</strong>antly published <strong>in</strong> Paris, but<br />

also some from Lyon and the Netherlands, and are mostly recent publications<br />

<strong>in</strong> the Weld, especially <strong>in</strong> the theology section (mostly of Jansenist tendency).<br />

The catalogue concludes with a section of editions of the classics.<br />

Throughout books are marked <strong>in</strong> a contemporary hand, and a few extra<br />

titles are entered.<br />
