uncut <strong>in</strong> the orig<strong>in</strong>al buV limp boards, with spr<strong>in</strong>kled paper sp<strong>in</strong>e,<br />

manuscript sp<strong>in</strong>e label, some surface abrasions; library shelf mark to<br />

sp<strong>in</strong>e, early manuscript ownership <strong>in</strong>scription to front free endpaper,<br />

record<strong>in</strong>g purchase date 19 August 1772 and price.<br />

First edition of an extensive narrative poem on fall<strong>in</strong>g out of love. Revenge<br />

seems on the cards: ‘Ora voi Beltà neglette, ed amanti disperati, preparate<br />

le vendetta contra chi v’ha maltrattati’. Particularly appeal<strong>in</strong>g is the Wnely<br />

engraved frontispiece entitled ‘amor disarmato’ where a determ<strong>in</strong>ed lady<br />

breaks Amor’s bow and arrows.<br />

Durandi (1737–1817) is particularly known as the author of numerous<br />

opera libretti.<br />
