3.4 MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE<br />

(b)<br />
Allowance shall be taken from the wall face or the projecting footing face,<br />
whichever gives the greater amount of excavation, and shall be measured for<br />
the full depth of the excavation.<br />
3.4.2 Clear site and surface excavation<br />
3.4.2.1<br />
The removal of trees, roots, scrub or similar obstructions shall be measured.<br />
3.4.2.2<br />
An item shall be measured for stripping vegetation if topsoil is to be stockpiled for<br />
later re-use.<br />
3.4.2.3<br />
Topsoil orturf to be preserved shall be measured in square metres and the maximum<br />
depth stated. The description shall include the distance to cart to stockpile.<br />

3.4.2.4<br />
Surface excavation and site clearing not exceeding 300 mm in depth shall be<br />
measured in square metres and the average depth stated.<br />
3.4.2.5<br />
Excavation over 300 mm in depth shall be measured in cubic metres and the<br />
maximum depth stated.<br />
3.4.3 Basement<br />
Basement excavation shall be described and measured in accordance with 3.3.<br />
3.4.4 Trench<br />
Trench, footing and pier excavation shall be described and measured in accordance<br />
with 3.3. The excavation shall be measured separately for each level from which<br />
excavation commences.<br />
3.4.5 Tunnel<br />
Excavation for cuttings and tunnelling shall be described and measured in accordance<br />
with 3.3. The length, width, height and sectional area of cutting or tunnel shall be<br />
stated.<br />
