SECTION 5 - PILING<br />

5.1 OVERVIEW<br />

Refer to section O, General rules, which shall be read in conjunction with this section.<br />

5.2 PREAMBLES<br />

5.2.1<br />

Particulars shall be given of:<br />

Any exceptional conditions relating to the works;<br />

The nature of and access to the site;<br />

The general contours of the site;<br />

The water table:<br />

The strata through which piles are driven or through which boring is to be<br />

made;<br />

5.2.2 Rates to include<br />

Reference to records of test bores;<br />

The maintenance of a piling log;<br />

Any other available information.<br />

The shifiing of all equipment to the required position for the placing of the pile.<br />

5.3 GENERAL PRINCIPLES<br />

5.3.1<br />

All the work directly related to piling shall be scheduled in accordance with the<br />

various sections of this Standard Method of Measurement unless otherwise stated.<br />

5.3.2<br />

An item shall be allowed for the provision, erection, maintenance and removal of<br />

equipment for the piling. Reference shall be made to all conditions covering<br />

equipment.<br />

5.3.3<br />

Driving or boring shall be scheduled separately and in accordance with the<br />

requirements of the piling system.<br />

5.3.4<br />

Attention shall be directed to any temporary excavation that may be required. If<br />

defined, temporary excavation should be measured as provided for in section 3.<br />

5.3.5<br />

Where storm or percolating water conditions are likely to be encountered, the<br />

provisions of clauses 1.3.34 and 3.3.4 shall apply.<br />
