SECTION 9 - REINFORCING STEEL
9.1 OVERVIEW
Referto section O, General rules, which shall be read in conjunction with this section.
9.2 PREAMBLES
9.2.1 Rates to include

Bending and cranking bars as required;
Hoisting and placing into position including maintaining whilst concrete is
being poured ;
Materials and labours required for securing the reinforcement including
chairs, tie wire, spacers and the like;
Supporting bars required but not shown;
Laps in fabric reinforcement.
9.3 GENERAL PRINCIPLES
9.3.1
Reinforcing shall be scheduled separately for foundations, floors, walls, columns,
beams. roof slabs and the like.
9.3.2
Supporting bars where shown shall be scheduled in accordance with this section.
9.3.3
Structural welding (not being welding for securing reinforcement) shall be enumerated
for each bar size and each type of weld.
9.4 BAR REINFORCEMENT
9.4.1 Measurement procedure
9.4.1.1
Bar reinforcement shall be stated in kilograms. All bars shall be measured separately
for each type and size including the extra material in laps and hooks.
9.4.1.2
Where not specifically detailed, laps shall be measured at 8.0 m centres,

The tables used for calculating the mass of bar reinforcement shall be stated.
9.4.1.4
Bar reinforcement shall be grouped according totype and size and within each group
under the following subdivisions.

(b)
(c)
(d)
(e)
(f)
Bars:
Bars exceeding 10.0 m in length in stages of 2.0 m;
Bars of special form;
Starter bars;
Links, stirrups or binders and the like;
Helical reinforcement.
