To have an effective outreach the major stakeholders from specific sectors were identified. They were<br />
invited in their full capacity to support the ISWM plan preparation as well as to participate in<br />
stakeholders’ consultative workshops. For the 1 st Municipal Solid Waste Management workshop various<br />
NGOs working in the area of door to door collection along with institutions specializing in waste<br />
processing were invited. The 2 nd workshop on MSW management was attended by diverse technology<br />
providers for centralized treatment, landfill designing experts etc. The E-waste workshop was organized<br />
with the support of Software <strong>Technology</strong> Parks of India (STPI) that represents Ministry of<br />
Communication and Information <strong>Technology</strong>, Government of India and Software Exporters Association<br />
of Pune (SEAP) representing the Pune based stakeholders from IT sector. For consultative workshop on<br />
construction and demolition waste the institutional support extended by Promoters and Builders<br />
association and their respective members. The workshop for Biomedical Waste Management was<br />
organized with the support of Indian Medical Association, Pune Chapter.<br />
Workshops started with the presentation of some key findings and issues. Various experts and technology<br />
/service providers for the particular stream of waste were invited to kick start the discussions with their<br />
presentations. Some officials from Bombay Municipal Corporation were also invited for these workshops.<br />
Mr. A. R. Khan, Assistant Executive Engineer, explained various different schemes that MCGM is<br />
implementing to tackle the problem of MSW. Mr. Dilip Shrotriya, Executive Engineer, MCGM was<br />
invited to talk about the Construction and debris waste management rules made by Municipal<br />
Corporation of Greater Mumbai . The presentations by panelists followed by discussion with all the<br />
concerned stakeholders, technology/service providers, NGOs and concerned PMC officials.<br />
All consultative workshops were held at Captain Vadke Hall of Pune Municipal Corporation. PMC<br />
officials, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board authorities, representatives of concerned stakeholders,<br />
various NGOs, technology/service providers and various educational and research institutions<br />
participated in these workshops. During the workshops many inputs were also received those were useful<br />
to prepare the <strong>Plan</strong> of action for ISWM.<br />
The salient features of the various meetings are presented in Box 4.1. <strong>Environmental</strong> Management <strong>Centre</strong><br />
has developed a dedicated website as a step towards community participation for ISWM. Box 4.2<br />
discusses the website on Integrated Solid Waste Management for Pune City.<br />
