A review of the solid waste management situation in Pune brings out the following features:
• The quantity of all types of solid waste is increasing continuously. With this trend the pressure on
Pune’s landfill is increasing
• Pune’s solid waste problem is multi-dimensional covering MSW, C&D Waste, E-Waste,
Industrial hazardous solid waste and biomedical waste. An integrated approach to solid waste is
very relevant
• Both decentralized and centralized approaches for waste management are relevant for Pune. An
optimal mix of these two approaches is needed with more emphasis on decentralized approach
