The field office in Pune is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of compliance of Pune city
and has to report to the Head Office in Mumbai. The organizational structure of the field office of Pune
is shown in Figure 7.8.

7.1.2 Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC)
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is accountable for the implementation of the MSW rules. This means
PMC is responsible to provide and facilitate for collection, segregation, storage, transport, processing and
disposal of MSW generated in the city. Within PMC the division of functions is defined as follows:
• The health department of PMC oversees the MSW management of the city. However, transport
facilities being used for the movement of the waste are not with the health department.
• While the MSW is managed primarily by the PMC, all other forms of regulated solid waste have their
management vested on the generators. In case of BMW a service provider for the common waste is
available in the city that caters to the maximum of the BMW generators.
