ESTABLISHMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL<br />

AWARENESS CENTRE (EAC)<br />

Target:<br />

‣ To form an <strong>Environmental</strong> Awareness <strong>Centre</strong> (EAC)<br />

‣ To strengthen existing and on-going PMC initiatives such as Chakachak<br />

Mission<br />

‣ To support new PMC awareness initiatives<br />

Lead Agency: PMC<br />

Support Agency: ISWM Cell, NGOs, Schools and Residential welfare,<br />

society associations and industry associations like MCCIA<br />

Location (Suggested): This project will be implemented at the city level.<br />

Description: Although, several awareness initiatives have been undertaken<br />

for various waste streams, a concerted effort through the establishment of a<br />

dedicated centre is essential for promoting environmental awareness in the<br />

waste management sector. Such a centre has not been initiated in any of the<br />

Indian cities and hence such a model can prove to be an ideal model for<br />

other urban waste management authorities. The centre will provide services<br />

for the public with easy access to environmental information.<br />

<strong>Environmental</strong> Awareness <strong>Centre</strong> will facilitate as a venue in the city of<br />

Pune which will be utilized by PMC, all other stakeholders like industries,<br />

NGO’s, educational institutions and the citizens for spreading information<br />

and awareness about various waste management techniques and issues. The<br />

EAC will be a well-equipped centre with latest audio-visual equipments<br />

coupled with computer rooms, lecture theatre and exhibition halls for<br />

promoting and disseminating the principles of ISWM.<br />

The centre will be equipped with library as well as separate facility for<br />

industries. In the further stages, the EAC will also aim at developing a<br />

Mobile van for propagation of the ISWM.<br />

Budget: Rs 9 Million<br />
