Finally, the rating of each option for a particular criterion is multiplied by the weight of the criterion.<br />

An option's overall rating is the sum of the products of rating times the weight of the criterion.<br />

A matrix of criteria vis-à-vis available technology options using the weighted sum method as<br />

described above can be prepared. A template for developing such a matrix is shown below in Table<br />

1.<br />

Scores can be assigned on the basis of a pre-decided scale. Actual information on a particular<br />

criterion could be qualitative or quantitative and will have to be converted to a score on the basis of<br />

the sale assumed.<br />

Note: It is critical here to decide a consistent descriptor definition for the scores; whether a higher or<br />

lower score is better and desirable for quantification.<br />

5.2 Sensitivity analysis<br />

In the process of developing the weighted sum matrix, it can be seen that at times the difference<br />

between the total scores for some options may be very marginal. In other words, if the group decides<br />
