<strong>Strategic</strong> <strong>Action</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> Report<br />

The ISWM action plan needs to be presented to the key officials of PMC and other key stakeholders<br />

who have the responsibility for the management of solid waste management in the city. Moreover,<br />

these responsible authorities need to be exposed and trained about the various new concepts and<br />

approaches introduced through the action plan.<br />

The proposed 2-day training program is designed to accomplish following objectives:<br />

1. To understand the issues in Solid Waste Management: Current Status, Policy and Legislative<br />

framework<br />

2. To understand the concept of ISWM in the context of Pune city – especially regarding different<br />

type of waste streams, their significance and management<br />

3. To introduce the ISWM <strong>Action</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> developed for Pune City<br />

4. To understand key concepts and important elements of the ISWM action plan such as 3Rs, SAT;<br />

centralized and decentralized options, waste to value chains, PPP etc.<br />

5. To facilitate a discussion on the various elements of ISWM <strong>Action</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> for Pune to ensure that<br />

it is effective and practical in meeting the needs of the City and the PMC.<br />

6. To provide resources to the participants to facilitate implementation<br />

About 30 participants from the concerned departments of the PMC and other key agencies (like<br />

Hospitals Association, Software <strong>Technology</strong> Parks, Builders Association, Maharashtra Pollution<br />

Control Board) responsible for the solid waste management may be invited.<br />

Training Methodology<br />

The training program will consist of short lectures followed by group discussions. Typically for each<br />

session the lecture would not exceed 30 to 45 minutes and the remaining time would be devoted for<br />

interaction among the participants and faculty. This is expected to make the program more<br />

productive, lively and interesting.<br />

Duration and Timing<br />

Two days during the second half of July 2007. Exact timing would be finalized in consultation with<br />

PMC and UNEP-IETC. Invites, Venue and refreshments will be responsibility of PMC. Provision of<br />

technical materials and conduct will be Dr Prasad Modak’s responsibility.<br />

India / Maharashtra including emerging issues such as C&D waste, e-<br />

waste, biomedical waste, hazardous waste etc.(Approx. 25 slides)<br />
