Based on the concentration level of the suspected site contaminants <strong>and</strong> the types of operations<br />

that will be conducted, a modified Level D Protective Clothing Ensemble will be used for work<br />

on this site. Section 2.9 of the EnSafe Corporate Health <strong>and</strong> Safety Manual provides general<br />

guidance <strong>and</strong> action levels for upgrading levels of PPE. Additional specific information (MSDS)<br />

about some of the site contaminants has been provided in Appendix A of this <strong>health</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>safety</strong><br />

<strong>plan</strong>.<br />

Level D Protective Clothing Ensemble<br />

Eye protection, meeting the ANSI 287.1-1968 st<strong>and</strong>ard<br />

l Chemical-resistant, steel toe, steel shank boots (or equivalent), meeting the ANSI 241. l-<br />

The following criteria are also provided to assist in determining when levels of protection must<br />

be upgraded:<br />

Site Conditions That Require Upgrading to Level C PPE<br />

l<br />

l<br />

Concentration of unknown organic vapors exceeds 5 ppm in the breathing zone.<br />

Concentration of any constituent exceeds 50 percent of the OSHA Permissible Exposure<br />

Limit (PEL) in the breathing zone.<br />
