Curriculum and Instruction with EC-6 Generalist Certification<br />

NOTE: Teaching certificates are issued by the State of Texas, not the <strong>University</strong>. In order to meet any new<br />

guidelines from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), the <strong>University</strong> may change requirements described in this<br />

<strong>Catalog</strong>. Students should check with the School of Education office for current requirements.<br />

This option leads to both the MEd degree in Curriculum and Instruction and state EC-6 Generalist certification.<br />

The student must meet all admission, retention, and certification requirements for teacher education and have a<br />

certification plan completed by the certification officer.<br />

The following courses must be completed with no grade less than a ―C‖:<br />

Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with Early Childhood through Grade 6<br />

Generalist Certification<br />

EDSP 5302 Survey of Exceptional Children<br />

EDUC 6301 Classroom Management<br />

EDUC 6302 Elementary School Curriculum and Instruction<br />

EDUC 6304 Children, Adolescents, and Learning<br />

EDUC 5331 Math for Preadolescents<br />

EDUC 5340 Social Studies for Preadolescents<br />

EDUC 5350 Science for Preadolescents<br />

EDRE 5350 Reading and the Language Arts<br />

EDRE 5310 Reading for Preadolescents<br />

EDRE 5320 Teaching Reading through Children‘s Literature<br />

EDEC 5306 Language and Concept Development in Young Children<br />

EDEC 5310 Preschool Curriculum and Instruction<br />

In addition to this course work, certification requires student teaching or an approved equivalent and successful<br />

completion of content area and Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) state certification exams.<br />

ACP students must complete the following courses after acceptance into the Teacher Education Program. In<br />

addition to these courses, ACP students must pass the required content area and pedagogy state certification<br />

exams.<br />

EDUC 5001: ACP Teaching in the Early Childhood Grade 12 Classroom<br />
