NURS 3434 Care of Individuals III<br />

Prerequisites: GPA of 2.5 or higher, and NURS 3424<br />

This is the third in a series of three courses that focus on nursing care of individuals. The dimensions of health are<br />

assessed in individuals experiencing major and/or life-threatening health problems. Upon successful completion of the<br />

course, students are expected to be able to apply concepts of case management and continuity of care across the adult<br />

lifespan and use a systematic approach to provide care for individuals with major and/or life-threatening health<br />

problems. Students provide care in a variety of critical care units. The course is four semester hours, including 90<br />

clinical hours.<br />

NURS 4101, 4203 Advanced Parent-Infant Health<br />

Prerequisites: The Nursing courses that are foundational for the clinical experiences.<br />

To enroll in this elective course, students must have permission of the instructor and dean by mid-semester of the<br />

semester prior to enrollment. NURS 4101 is a one (1) semester hour course that requires 40 clinical contact hours with<br />

a preceptor in the clinical environment. NURS 4203 is two (2) semester hours credit and requires 80 clinical contact<br />

hours with a preceptor.<br />

NURS 4103, 4205 Advanced Critical Care Nursing<br />

Prerequisite: NURS 3434.<br />

It is expected that BSN students will have completed BIOL 3433 prior to enrolling in this special topics elective course.<br />

NURS 4103 is a one semester hour course that requires 40 clinical contact hours with a preceptor in the clinical<br />

environment. NURS 3205 and 4205 are two semester hours credit and require 80 clinical contact hours with a<br />

preceptor.<br />

NURS 4104, 4206 Advanced Child Health<br />

Prerequisites: The Nursing courses that are foundational for the clinical experiences.<br />

To enroll in this elective course, students must have permission of the instructor and dean by mid-semester of the<br />

semester prior to enrollment. NURS 4104 is a one semester hour course that requires 40 clinical contact hours with a<br />

preceptor in the clinical environment. NURS 4206 is two semester hours credit and requires 80 clinical contact hours<br />

with a preceptor.<br />

NURS 4105, 4207 Advanced Emergency Nursing<br />

Prerequisites: The Nursing courses that are foundational for the clinical experiences.<br />

semester prior to enrollment. NURS 4105 is a one semester hour course that requires 40 clinical contact hours with a<br />

preceptor in the clinical environment. NURS 4207 is two semester hours credit and requires 80 clinical contact hours<br />

NURS 4102, 4204 Advanced Perioperative Nursing<br />

Prerequisites: NURS 3404<br />

NURS 4106, 4208 Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing<br />

Prerequisite: The Nursing courses that are foundational for the clinical experiences.<br />

To enroll in this elective course, students must have permission of the instructor and dean by mid-semester of the<br />

semester prior to enrollment. NURS 4106 is a one (1) semester hour course that requires 40 clinical contact hours with<br />

a preceptor in the clinical environment. NURS 4208 is two (2) semester hours credit and require 80 clinical contact<br />

hours with a preceptor.<br />

NURS 4181, 4281, 4381 Special Topics<br />

The student will select a special problem or interest area in nursing for intensive study. Written objectives and<br />

methodology are submitted to the instructor and department chairman for approval to register for this course.<br />
