Guided research involving special projects relating to Christianity and its mission to the world.<br />

CHRI 4293 Senior Seminar<br />

This course is designed as a capstone experience for Christianity majors. The program will ascertain what the students<br />

have learned in their major and to re-emphasize important concepts in the various disciplines of Christianity. This<br />

course is the exit exam and is required for graduation.<br />

CHRI 4320 The Bible and Religion in America<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

This course surveys the religious history in America from the colonial period to the present. Special emphasis will be<br />

given to the publication, interpretation, and proclamation of the Bible in America. The course will utilize the Dunham<br />

Bible Museum as a resource.<br />

CHRI 4333 Sociology of Religion<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

An analysis of the role and functions of religion in human societies, types of religious organizations, and the relation<br />

between religion and other social institutions. The role of Christianity in American society will be emphasized.<br />

(Offered also as SOCI 4333.)<br />

CHRI 4334 Psychology of Religion<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

The insights of psychology as a human science are used to inspect and evaluate the religious dimensions of life.<br />

Included are the sources and meanings of religion, religious development, specific religious experiences and<br />

phenomena, and the relative health and sickness of various expressions of religion. (Offered also as PSYC 4334.)<br />

CHRI 4335 Systematic Theology<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323, and (2333 or 2343or 2353 or 2363).<br />

A course designed to study the historical, biblical, and systematic approaches to Christian theology.<br />

CHRI 4343 Old Testament Prophets<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

A study of the prophetic movement in Israel and the writings of the canonical prophets.<br />

CHRI 4345 Christian Ethics<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

This course provides a comprehensive study of Christian Ethics including biblical and theological foundations,<br />

historical developments, and contemporary issues of moral concern. The central role of faith communities in moral<br />

development and the importance of church engagement with culture will be emphasized.<br />

CHRI 4353 World Religions<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

An introduction to the thought and practices of the great religions of the world. Attention is given to the origin,<br />

development, and major teachings of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Shintoism, Judaism, Islam, and<br />

Christianity. (Offered also as PHIL 4353.)<br />

CHRI 4363 Philosophy of Religion<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323 and PHIL 1313.<br />

A critical examination of the nature and validity of religious experience and the place of religion in human life.<br />

Consideration is given to religious problems such as the existence and nature of God, the source of religious<br />

knowledge, the nature of man, the origin and nature of evil. (Offered also as PHIL 4363.)<br />

CHRI 4383 <strong>Baptist</strong> History<br />

Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />

A study of <strong>Baptist</strong> history and polity with particular emphasis given to <strong>Baptist</strong> origins, developments, distinctive<br />

theological positions, leaders, and current trends. Special attention will be given to <strong>Baptist</strong> life in America and<br />

particularly the Southern <strong>Baptist</strong> Convention.<br />

CHRI 5300 Introduction to Biblical Texts and Doctrines<br />

A course designed to engage students in introductory studies in Old Testament, New Testament, and Christian<br />

Doctrine.<br />
