KINE 3398 Foundations of Health Instruction<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310<br />

The class emphasizes the dimensions of wellness and how to teach school age children (K-12) and or adults. Areas that<br />

will be covered involve the health components (cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength and endurance,<br />

flexibility and body composition), proper hygiene, sex education, disease prevention, drug use prevention, mental<br />

health stability, environmental health management, and stress management. In addition to learning details about the<br />

health components, students will learn how to teach, develop, and present health lessons to a class of students of<br />

individual with whom a student is developing a wellness program.<br />

KINE 4181, 4281, 4381 Special Topics<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310<br />

Directed study of a minimum of thirty clock hours for each semester hour of credit. Topics and projects are selected on<br />

the basis of student interest and need.<br />

KINE 4304 Athletic Training Internship V<br />

Prerequisite: formal retention within the ATEP.<br />

Practical experience supervised by an Approved Clinical Instructor in an athletic training setting. A minimum of 200<br />

clock hours is required. Emphasis on clinical proficiencies of pharmacology, nutritional aspects of injury and illness,<br />

psychosocial intervention and referral, health care administration and team assignment during spring athletic season<br />

with emphasis on upper and lower extremities.<br />

KINE 4305Athletic Training Internship VI<br />

Prerequisite: formal retention within the ATEP.<br />

Practical experience supervised by an Approved Clinical Instructor in an athletic training environment. A minimum of<br />

200 clock hours is required. This course is designed as a capstone experience. Emphasis is on competence of the<br />

proficiencies as set forth by the NATA Athletic Training Educational Competencies (4 th Edition). Students will be<br />

assigned to a team sport within the fall athletic season with emphasis on upper and lower extremities, general medical<br />

conditions, and equipment intensive situations.<br />

KINE 4323 Motor Learning<br />

Prerequisites: BIOL 2404; KINE 2310; 3393<br />

A course structured around the basics of human movement and motor performance. Subject matter includes perceptualmotor<br />

foundations of physical education with emphasis on the state of the performer and his ability to learn motor<br />

skills.<br />

KINE 4328 Wellness and Fitness in EC-12 Schools<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310<br />

This course is designed to introduce the kinesiology major to practical concepts and programs that are presently being<br />

taught in elementary, junior high, and secondary physical education programs. The course includes information on<br />

daily and unit lesson plan preparation, class organization, classroom management, and field experiences. A big part of<br />

this class is devoted to what is going on in the schools, as well as what is effective and valuable in a modern physical<br />

education curriculum. (12-hour practicum included.)<br />

KINE 4340 Wellness Internship<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310, KINE 4370, and BIOL 2404 with grade C or higher<br />

A field experience in kinesiology involving supervised experiences working in either an on-campus or off-campus<br />

setting that must be approved by the Kinesiology Department. The student will be required to complete 200 field<br />

experience hours. In addition, the class will complete a portfolio of work assigned by the professor. Completion of 22<br />

hours of Kinesiology courses (excluding activity courses) and senior standing.<br />

KINE 4363 Sports Sociology<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310<br />

Sport Sociology is designed to thoughtfully examine and analyze the role of sports in modern society. Understanding<br />

sports as a part of our American culture is appropriate in analyzing the many subcultures involved in the world of sport.<br />

KINE 4370 Research in Kinesiology<br />

Prerequisite: KINE 2310, senior classification and completed 22 hrs of Kinesiology courses, excluding activity<br />

courses. Research in current issues of kinesiology will be addressed to provide information regarding the field of<br />

kinesiology. Students will write a research paper and give a presentation addressing the issues. Additional research<br />

projects will be assigned.<br />
