The College of Science and Mathematics offers a B.S. degree with options of majors in biology, biochemistrymolecular<br />
biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics. B.S. degree options for majors for students pursuing<br />
teacher certification are composite science, life science, mathematical studies, and physical science.<br />
The College of Science and Mathematics faculty members are deeply committed to undergraduate teaching and<br />
research. One-on-one interactions with faculty members are the norm in this college. Research opportunities with<br />
faculty are available to undergraduates. Students are also encouraged to participate in summer internships and<br />
research programs at other universities and research institutions.<br />

Major in Biology<br />
The biology program at <strong>Houston</strong> <strong>Baptist</strong> <strong>University</strong> emphasizes the biomedical/biotechnology aspects of biology.<br />
The biology department is especially strong in the areas of microbiology, histology, physiology, genetics,<br />
virology, molecular biology, immunology and cell biology.<br />
The program prepares students for a wide variety of career destinations including allied health professions,<br />
graduate school, industrial research settings, nursing, and education.<br />
Graduates of the program have become Ph.D.s, physicians, dentists, biotechnicians, researchers, teachers, or have<br />
entered other interesting professions. Professions for persons with a degree in biology extend into such fields as<br />
allied health, quality control, consulting, lab management, ecology, animal and plant science, food science,<br />
industrial waste, nutrition, forensics, criminology, and related sales areas.<br />
Departmental honors are available in Biology.<br />
