Additional course work (undergraduate or graduate) in the teaching field may be required and is determined on<br />

an individual basis by the certification officer and documented in a certification plan. Certification also requires<br />

student teaching or an approved equivalent and successful completion of content area and PPR state certification<br />

exams.<br />

ACP students must complete the following courses after acceptance into the Teacher Education Program.<br />

Besides these courses, ACP students must pass the required content area and PPR state certification exams.<br />

EDUC 5001: ACP Teaching in the Early Childhood Grade 12 Classroom (Internship)<br />

ACP students pursuing 4-8 or 8-12 plans must have at least twelve (12) hours of undergraduate coursework in<br />

their desired teaching field to be accepted into <strong>HBU</strong>.<br />

Curriculum and Instruction with Middle Grades Certification in Math, Science, or Social Studies<br />

NOTE: Teaching certificates are issued by the State of Texas, not the <strong>University</strong>. The state is currently changing<br />

some certification levels and requirements. In order to meet any new guidelines from the Texas Education<br />

Agency (TEA), the <strong>University</strong> may change requirements described in this <strong>Catalog</strong>. Students should check with<br />

the School of Education office for current requirements.<br />

This option leads to both the MEd degree in Curriculum and Instruction and middle grades (4-8) certification in<br />

math, science or social studies. The student must meet all admission, retention, and certification requirements for<br />

teacher education and have a certification plan completed by the certification officer.<br />

The following courses must be completed with no grade less than ―C‖:<br />
