CHRI 3311 Hermeneutics<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A course designed to introduce students to the basic issues, methods, and history of Biblical interpretation. The course<br />
will also explore the application of hermeneutical principles to a selected contemporary topic. (Offered also as PHIL<br />
3311.)<br />
CHRI 3314 History of Christianity<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A course designed to introduce Christianity in its historical development.<br />
CHRI 3325 The Christian Vocation<br />
Prerequisites; CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
The course includes a study of the occupational field of church vocations with emphasis upon the church vocation<br />
worker‘s personal and ministerial identity, ministerial ethics, <strong>Baptist</strong> denominational history and polity, and the<br />
development of basic skills common to ministry. It incorporates the use of professional ministers from a variety of<br />
specialization areas who serve as resource personnel and role models for the aspiring church vocation student.<br />
CHRI 3333 Jesus and His Teachings<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
An intensive study of the life and teachings of Jesus.<br />
CHRI 3336 Christian Leadership<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
This course reviews theories and literature concerning leadership from a Christian perspective. Students will study the<br />
theological and ecclesiological objectives of Christian leadership, the spiritual preparation required of leaders, and core<br />
practices for leading faithfully and effectively.<br />
CHRI 3344 Paul and His Letters<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A study of the apostle Paul and his contribution to the progress of early Christianity based upon the book of Acts and<br />
the epistles attributed to Paul.<br />
CHRI 3353 Homiletics<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A basic course to introduce the student to the principles of preaching and other ministerial speaking. Attention is given<br />
to various types of sermons and their preparation and delivery.<br />
CHRI 3363 Evangelism<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A general study of the theology and methods of evangelism, including practical preparation and application for a lifestyle<br />
evangelism.<br />
CHRI 3370 Palestinian Archaeology<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A field-based experience in the archaeology of Palestine through readings, lectures, travel to excavated sites, and<br />
participation in the excavation of a selected site.<br />
CHRI 3371 Christian Worship and Music<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323.<br />
A survey of the biblical roots, historical development, and theological meaning of worship, and the music used to<br />
facilitate and enhance worship from its Christian beginnings to the present. On-site class participation in several<br />
worship services is required. (Also offered as MUHL 3371.)<br />
CHRI 3377 Supervised Ministry Practicum-Hospital<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323, 3325.<br />
A field-based course in which the Christian vocations student functions in a ministry role under the supervision of both<br />
an experienced hospital professional and a university professor. Permission of instructor required.<br />
CHRI 3378 Supervised Ministry Practicum-Church<br />
Prerequisites: CHRI 1313, 1323, 3325.<br />
A field-based course in which the Christian vocations student functions in a ministry role under the supervision of an<br />
experienced minister and a university professor. Permission of instructor required.<br />
