ACADEMIC RESOURCES
Academic Advising
Each newly enrolled student at HBU is assigned an academic advisor from the department of the student‘s major
early in the first semester. The faculty advisor assists the student with educational and career planning, discusses
academic successes and failures, and helps select courses for completing a degree. Student advisees are expected
to avail themselves of these advising services in order to achieve graduation in a timely manner. The student is
always held responsible for fulfilling all degree requirements. Failure to utilize advising services may result in
graduating delays, insufficient progress toward completing a degree, and other complications.
Students may see his or her advisor for academic advising each semester during the advisor‘s office hours. The
advisee will receive a PIN (Personal Identification Number) after completing an advising session, and once early
registration for classes in the upcoming semester begun, he or she will be able to sign up online for the desired
courses. Students are strongly advised to make course schedule decisions in a timely manner. Students may
change their course choices at any time while open registration is ongoing without paying an Add/Drop Fee (see
Fee Schedule).
Students who want to further investigate fields of interest, change their major, or do some type of career
exploration should contact the staff of the Success and Advising Center for assistance.
