***NURS 3434 Care of Individuals III may be challenged if the RN has a minimum of one-year recent<br />

experience in critical care nursing. (Recent experience means within the past 5 years). The challenge process<br />

involves passing the teacher-made, comprehensive final exam with a grade of 75% or higher, demonstrating<br />

competent care and nursing skills during at least two days of clinical practice, and developing an acceptable plan<br />

of care for the client(s) served.<br />

• Credit hours awarded based on a challenge process 35-39 hours<br />

• Prerequisite and General Education course requirements 69 hours<br />

• BSN course requirements 28-32 hours<br />

• Upper division hours taken 28-32 hours<br />

• Total Hours required for the BSN degree 128 hours<br />

Graduation Requirements<br />

• Submit a passing Graduating Level Curriculum Checkpoint portfolio<br />

• Candidates for the BSN are expected to have earned a prescribed number of points in the Nursing Student<br />

Association (NSA).<br />

GENERIC TRANSFER OR RE-ENTRY NURSING<br />

The challenge program is designed to give previous <strong>HBU</strong> nursing students or transfer students a chance to<br />

document their knowledge base and nursing skills in specified courses of the BSN curriculum.<br />

<strong>HBU</strong> nursing students or transfer students will be allowed to challenge those nursing courses for which they have<br />

grades of ―C‖ or above.<br />

The Challenge Process<br />

To be approved for the Challenge Program, the following steps need to be completed:<br />

1. Get admitted/readmitted to the university.<br />

2. Submit to the Dean the course descriptions and course syllabi for those courses to be challenged.<br />

3. Upon the Dean‘s approval, the student may then proceed with the Challenge Program for each of the<br />

courses for which there is transcripted credit.<br />

Graduation Requirements<br />

In addition to meeting the university and nursing program requirements for graduation, the generic transfer or reentry<br />

student must meet the following criteria:<br />

• Complete the curriculum checkpoints.<br />

• Attain the Nursing Student Association (NSA) required points.<br />
