GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS<br />

MASTER OF ACCOUNTANCY<br />

The Master of Accountancy is designed specifically for the undergraduate accounting major in the School of<br />

Business at <strong>HBU</strong> who intends to sit for the CPA Examination upon completion of degree requirements. To sit, a<br />

candidate must have completed a baccalaureate degree and 150 semester hours of coursework. The<br />

undergraduate accounting major directly prepares our accounting graduates for the content of the CPA exam.<br />

The Master of Accountancy is specially tailored to be completed concurrently with the Bachelor of Business<br />

Administration (BBA) in the fourth and fifth years of enrollment. It combines an altered undergraduate<br />

accounting major and complementary graduate courses to fulfill the requirement of 150 semester hours. Upon<br />

completion of degree requirements, the student will be awarded both a BBA (major in accounting) and a Master<br />

of Accountancy.<br />

MASTER OF ARTS IN BIBLICAL LANGUAGES<br />

The Master of Arts in Biblical Languages (MABL) provides students with a concentrated and intensive program<br />

of study in biblical languages and related fields. The MABL is designed for those students having an<br />

undergraduate major in biblical languages or those students having completed at least 4 semesters of one major<br />

biblical language and at least 2 semesters of the other major biblical language. The MABL program requires 30<br />

hours of course work.<br />

The MABL curriculum consists of core courses in Hebrew and Greek. The core Hebrew and Greek courses<br />

emphasize advanced grammar, syntax, semantics, and discourse analysis. In addition to the core Hebrew and<br />

Greek courses, other required courses include Linguistics, Biblical Aramaic, and Hermeneutics. Nine hours of<br />

electives are offered, to include at least three hours in a biblical language. Available electives include advanced<br />

Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic as well as offerings in Biblical Studies.<br />

MASTER OF ARTS IN CHRISTIAN COUNSELING<br />

To earn the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling at <strong>HBU</strong>, a student must complete the following forty- nine<br />

(49) semester hours with no grade less than ―C‖: PSYC 5310, 5312, 5314, 5323, 5315, 6301, 6302, 6308, 6310,<br />

6311, 6320, 6315, 6191, and EPSY 6306, and nine hours of electives in psychology. Students may take electives<br />

beyond the forty-nine (49) semester hours required.<br />

An applicant for admission to the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling (MACC) program must meet the<br />

following requirements for admission: A baccalaureate degree within the past seven years from a regionally<br />

accredited college or university with a major in psychology or the equivalents of certain undergraduate courses<br />

including the classes listed in the <strong>HBU</strong>‘s <strong>Catalog</strong> as PSYC 1313 (General Psychology), PSYC 2301<br />

(Introduction to Statistics), PSYC 2364 (Abnormal Psychology) and CHRI 2333 (Christian Doctrine); receipt of<br />

all official transcripts from each accredited postsecondary institution attended; three letters of professional<br />

reference/recommendation, and a letter of recommendation from the student‘s pastor. An applicant must have<br />

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores on file in order to be admitted into the MACC. The student must<br />

have a combined score of at least 850 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the GRE. The verbal score must<br />

be at least 400.<br />

MASTER OF ARTS IN PSYCHOLOGY<br />

<strong>HBU</strong> offers the Master of Arts degree in Psychology with primary emphases on foundation areas and on<br />

counseling psychology. A student may earn the MAP degree as a terminal degree and may seek state licensure as<br />

a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Psychological Associate (LPA), or, with additional hours, a<br />

Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP). The MAP offers advanced preparation in counseling, testing,<br />

and research methods.<br />

Following this course of study, students will be eligible to apply to the Texas State Board of Examiners of<br />

Psychologists for certification as a Licensed Psychological Associate or to the Texas State Board of Examiners<br />

of Professional Counselors for licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Students enrolled in the MAP<br />

program may add PSYC, 6101, 6102, 6103, 6104, 6105, 6106, EDUC 6310, EDUC 6312, and EDUC 6301 in<br />

order to qualify for the Licensed Specialist in School Psychology (LSSP).<br />
