7. ACTIVITY DRESS<br />

(a) Members of SCOUTS New Zealand may, at the discretion of the Leader in<br />

charge, wear clothing appropriate to the occasion when in camp or on a Scouting<br />

excursion. However, departure from and return to the Group community should<br />

whenever possible be in uniform.<br />

(b) For particular activities when, in the opinion of the Leader in charge, uniform need<br />

not be worn, alternative clothing may be specified.<br />

8. SCARVES<br />

(a) Within the Group, all Keas, Cubs, <strong>Scouts</strong>, Venturers and Leaders will wear similar<br />

scarves. Keas must wear the official Kea woggle.<br />

(b) <strong>The</strong> colour and design of Group scarves will be chosen by the Group Leader in<br />

consultation with the Group Council, subject to the approval of the Zone<br />

Committee and Zone Leader, who will arrange that as far as possible no two<br />

Groups in the same Zone shall have scarves of the same colour and design.<br />

<strong>The</strong> scarf is worn with a woggle, other than the Gilwell pattern except by those so<br />

entitled. <strong>The</strong> recommended scarf size for <strong>Scouts</strong> is 750mm sides. Those worn by<br />

Cubs should be shorter and for adults, longer.<br />

(c) <strong>The</strong> colour and design of a Zone scarf shall be approved by National Office. Zone<br />

Leaders and Zone Adult Leaders may wear the registered scarf of their Zone.<br />

(d) Any uniformed member of a Zone representing the Zone at a Region or National<br />

function may wear the registered scarf of the Zone.<br />

(e) <strong>The</strong> colour and design of a Region scarf shall be approved by National Office. It<br />

may be worn by all uniformed Region personnel.<br />

(f) <strong>The</strong> official New Zealand National scarf which is black with a silver fern leaf and<br />

the letters N.Z. on the peak is worn by National Leaders, National Personnel<br />

holding non-executive rank, National Office staff and Regional Development<br />

Managers.<br />

(g) SCOUTS New Zealand contingents and members travelling overseas may wear the<br />

official National Contingent scarf which is black with a fern leaf and the words<br />

“Aotearoa New Zealand” on the peak and with an Aotearoa motif at the border.<br />

(h) National Office may approve the colour and design of special scarves, which may<br />

be worn, in accordance with National Office directions, by participants at National<br />

Events and other approved activities.<br />

9. GILWELL SCARF<br />

(a) <strong>The</strong> Gilwell Scarf may be worn by members of the National Training Team and<br />

other trainers whilst engaged on training activities.<br />

(b) Other Adult Leaders, when not representing their Region, Zone or Group may<br />

wear the Gilwell scarf, if entitled to it.<br />
