27. SALUTES<br />

(a)<br />

Occasions: Salutes are given on the following occasions:-<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

(iii)<br />

As a greeting.<br />

As a token of respect.<br />

During the making or re-affirming of the Promise.<br />

(b)<br />

Methods: <strong>The</strong> following are the methods of saluting:-<br />

(i)<br />

(ii)<br />

All members, whether in uniform or otherwise, salute by raising the first<br />

three fingers of the right hand to the forehead.<br />

If the hands are occupied, the salute is by turning the head and eyes to the<br />

right or left as the case may be.<br />

(iii) During the making or re-affirming of the Promise members salute by giving<br />

the "Scout Sign". This is given by raising the right hand level with the<br />

shoulder, palm to the front.<br />

(iv) <strong>The</strong> above salutes are used irrespective of whether the head is bare or<br />

covered.<br />

(v)<br />

In church, the salute is always by standing at the alert.<br />

(vi) On all parades other than in church, the Leader calls the <strong>Scouts</strong> to the alert<br />

and is the only person who salutes, although at flag break it is permissible<br />

for all assembled to salute, as the flag is broken.<br />

28. ADULT LEADER TRAINING<br />

Adult Leader Training is designed to help Adult Leaders to deliver quality activity for<br />

youth and to develop their own leadership skills. <strong>The</strong>refore every Leader is expected<br />

to undertake training so far as they are able to do so. A scheme of Adult Training is<br />

available for all leaders through Group and Zone Leaders. <strong>The</strong> Adult training scheme is<br />

subject to review from time to time as approved by the Chief Executive.<br />
