Accountable to<br />

<strong>The</strong> Assistant Venturer Leader is accountable to the Group Leader through the<br />

Venturer Leader, and assists with the implementation of the Venturer<br />

programme.<br />

Liaises with<br />

• <strong>The</strong> parents and caregivers for support and assistance.<br />

• Zone/Region Venturer Leaders for training and support.<br />

• Other Venturer Leaders for mutual support and sharing of programme<br />

ideas.<br />

• Rover Crew Leaders to arrange the progression of Venturers to the Rover<br />

Crew.<br />

• Kea, Cub and Scout Leaders to keep each other informed of section<br />

development matters.<br />

Key tasks<br />

1. Help the Venturer Leader train and support the Unit Chairperson.<br />

2. Help establish and train an elected Unit Executive.<br />

3. Help ensure the Unit Executive plans and organises a challenging and<br />

enjoyable programme that meets the goals outlined in the Venturer<br />

Programme Evaluation Checklist.<br />

4. Endeavour to build and maintain adequate membership levels through<br />

recruitment techniques.<br />

5. Attend Group Council Meetings in order to share in the Group<br />

communication system and be well informed about Group matters.<br />

6. Prepare and encourage Venturers to progress to the Rover Crew.<br />

7. Complete the Initial and Practical Stages of the Adult Leader Training<br />

Scheme within eighteen months of taking out a Leader's Warrant, and<br />

continue to attend skills training on an ongoing basis.<br />

8. Observe the Scout Association's Code of Conduct and Risk Management<br />

guidelines.<br />

1.9 Position Description - Group Leader<br />

Purpose of the position<br />

To manage the Scout Group so that the youth sections and their Leaders deliver<br />

an enjoyable programme of activities that meet the aims and objectives of<br />

SCOUTS New Zealand.<br />

Accountable to<br />

<strong>The</strong> Group Leader is accountable to the Zone Leader for the implementation of<br />

the youth programme and management of the Group resources.<br />

Liaises with<br />

• <strong>The</strong> parents and caregivers for support and assistance.<br />

• Zone/Region Leaders for training and support.<br />

• Other Group Leaders for mutual support and sharing of ideas.<br />

• Community leaders for promotion and financial support for the Group.<br />
