10. UNIFORM<br />
(a) <strong>The</strong> official uniform to be worn by all members (with exceptions as provided in<br />
Appendix 1) is a green polo shirt of official design with optional short or long<br />
sleeves or a green sweatshirt of official design.<br />
(b) Invested members will wear an approved scarf appropriate to their membership<br />
or activity.<br />
(c) <strong>The</strong> polo shirt and sweatshirt will carry SCOUTS New Zealand logo. No other<br />
badges, emblems, decorations or adornments will be worn on official uniform<br />
shirts.<br />
(d) <strong>The</strong> official polo shirt or sweatshirt together with an appropriate approved scarf<br />
constitutes full and complete uniform. Each Group may determine the type of<br />
garments, to be worn below the waist by its members. Similar decisions may be<br />
made by consensus for garments to be worn by Zone, Region and National<br />
personnel.<br />
Badges and Awards<br />
(e) Badges may be worn on garments other than the official polo shirt or sweatshirt.<br />
Young people have indicated acceptance of a badge vest (Jerkin), or jacket.<br />
Badges and certificates may also be displayed on wall charts or framed posters.<br />
(f) Each Scout Group may decide the method or methods of displaying badges<br />
applicable to its members and where and when they will be displayed or worn.<br />
(g) <strong>The</strong> Cub and Scout sections will recognise youth leadership positions (Sixer &<br />
Patrol Leader etc) and six or patrol membership by woggles of distinctive design<br />
and colours. Sandford and Cossgrove training will also be recognised by a<br />
distinctive woggle.<br />
(h) Participation in major events such as Jamboree, Regatta and Venture will be<br />
recognised by the issue of a badge or patch.<br />
(i) <strong>The</strong> Venturer section has a metal Queen's Scout badge .<br />
(j) Zone badges and Group name tapes or emblems may be worn on the scarf near<br />
the apex at the option of the Group. Zone and Region personnel may make a<br />
similar choice by consensus.<br />
(k) Recognition for Awards for Good Services, Meritorious Conduct and Gallantry<br />
may be included on the official nameplate available from SCOUTS New Zealand<br />
National Office or its agent. <strong>The</strong>se name plates may also be worn on the ‘walking<br />
out' uniform jacket. Medals may be worn with any form of dress on formal<br />
occasions designated by the organiser or senior host.<br />
(l) <strong>The</strong> New Zealand flag emblem will not be worn. National identification is by<br />
SCOUTS New Zealand logo.<br />
Formal dress<br />
(m) A white, collared shirt and an appropriate Scout tie may be worn by Venturers<br />
and Rovers when a formal mode of dress is required. Alternatively an approved<br />
scarf may be worn with the white shirt. <strong>The</strong> Queen's Scout badge and Rover<br />
epaulettes may be worn on the white shirt by those entitled to do so.<br />
(n) A white shirt worn with the international Scout tie, or silk scarf for women, navy<br />
blue or black jacket and grey trousers or skirt, constitutes a formal "walking out"<br />
uniform for all Adult Leaders.<br />
Implementation<br />
(o) Adult Leaders and Activity Leaders must exercise at all times a "duty of care" to<br />
ensure that participants wear clothing appropriate to the activity being<br />
undertaken, in particular protection from the sun and other elements and<br />
prevention of hypothermia. Common sense must prevail over formal uniform<br />
guidelines.<br />
