such re-examination is unsatisfactory then the Certificate will be<br />

withdrawn. Any such withdrawal shall be recorded by the Regional Air<br />

Activities Adviser and reported to the National Air Activities Adviser,<br />

appropriate Zone Leader and Group Leader concerned.<br />

1.3 Air Activities Charge Certificate Requirements<br />

(a) For an Air Activities Charge Certificate an applicant must:<br />

(1) be recommended by a Group Leader as a responsible person; or<br />

(2) be a Venturer who holds the Major Interest Award in aviation.<br />

(b) An Air Activities Charge Certificate Holder who transfers from one Region to<br />

another should check with the Regional Air Activities Adviser prior to<br />

exercising the responsibilities of the Air Activities Charge Certificate in the<br />

new Region.<br />

(c) Applicants for an Air Activities Charge Certificate must either complete a<br />

period of instruction or demonstrate (generally by examination) a sound<br />

knowledge of the following:<br />

(1) <strong>Rule</strong>s and safety precautions to be followed when in the movements<br />

and operating areas of an airfield.<br />

(2) Requirements of both a controlled and uncontrolled airfield.<br />

(3) Standard Light signals used on an airfield.<br />

(4) Safety procedures for approaching an aircraft or helicopter when<br />

engines are operating.<br />

(5) Foreign object detection and prevention measures on the airfield<br />

movements and operating area.<br />

(6) (i) Cockpit safety checks to be carried out prior to conducting any<br />

activity in or about a powered aircraft, or<br />

(ii) Correct procedures applicable to the handling and parking of<br />

glider aircraft.<br />

(7) Elementary knowledge of the theory of flight including the principles<br />

of an aerofoil and the airflow over an aerofoil shape.<br />

(8) Be able to point out and describe the functions of the following<br />

moveable control surfaces:<br />

(9) ailerons<br />

(ii) elevator<br />

(iii) rudder, and<br />

(iv) flaps<br />

(10) Be able to identify the following major aircraft parts/components:<br />

(i) fuselage<br />

(ii) mainplane<br />

(iii) tailplane<br />

(iv) undercarriage, and<br />

(v) engine<br />

(11) Have experienced a minimum of one familiarisation flight with an<br />

instructor in a powered aircraft or glider.<br />

(12) It is desirable for the applicant to have visited a control tower on a<br />

controlled airfield if such a facility is located in the applicant's vicinity.<br />

However, it is appreciated that in some areas of New Zealand the<br />

need to meet such a requirement could involve travelling<br />

considerable distances and if such is the case, the applicant should<br />

request a waiver when submitting an application to the Area Air<br />

Activities Adviser.<br />
