we know very little ; <strong>the</strong> order <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir birth is quite uncerti<strong>in</strong>, and <strong>the</strong>ir parentage is ^^^P 'Ionly<br />

evidenced by <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong>y were <strong>of</strong> Cupar, and <strong>of</strong> a lime which Inconsistent<br />

with <strong>the</strong>ir be<strong>in</strong>g daugliters to Pittormie. They were<br />

1. Cristean <strong>Wedderburn</strong> [1 590 ?— 1G25]. There is <strong>in</strong> David Wcddcrhuni's<br />

Comjjt Biiik a. s<strong>in</strong>gle mention, 2 April lUlI, <strong>of</strong> Cristean <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, s[)ouse to C.<br />

[Ca//ta<strong>in</strong>] Cnni'<strong>in</strong>ik'<strong>in</strong>''.. wlio must, I tii<strong>in</strong>k, be tiiis person (D.W. IG (/). There is also<br />

among <strong>the</strong> S. Andrew's Testaments tlio confirmation, 4 Feb. 1Cl'5, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> will <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

late Cristean Woilderburn, spouse to David Rnhi^-tnone, youn;.'cr, merchant, liuriress <strong>of</strong><br />

Cupar, who died Oct. 162 J, given up by <strong>the</strong> said David on behalf <strong>of</strong> David, Alexander,<br />

Margaret, and Cristean Robertsone, her children. Mr. .James AVcdderburn, m<strong>in</strong>ister<br />

at Moonzie, is named as a creditor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> deceased (S.A.T. o). If, as is probable, this<br />

also refers to her, her first husband must have died and she have remarried between<br />

1611 and 1620.<br />

2. Beatrix Wedderbtirn [1591?— 16G7] m. John Les«-l/s, and died Aug.<br />

1667. She is named but once, viz.. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> register <strong>of</strong> her burial, "2.^ Aug. 1CG7,<br />

Beatri.x <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, relict <strong>of</strong> .lohn Lesseils, was buried" (H^'j. Cupar Jluroi/s).<br />

3. Margaret <strong>Wedderburn</strong> [1597— 1075] m. Amlr-> Ba<strong>in</strong>et. She is named<br />

<strong>in</strong> a grant, confirmed under <strong>the</strong> Great Seal 2 Sejit. 1G41, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> liurgldie,<br />

Leuchars, co. Fife, and made to Mr. Robert Meldrum. on resiguut<strong>in</strong>n bv (u<strong>in</strong>oui,' o<strong>the</strong>rs)<br />

her and her husband {Great Seal Ee^., vol. 1634-51, §1560).' "The only o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

reference to her is <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g :— " 1675 June 15, ilargaret <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, relict <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> deceast Mr. Andro lieunet, m<strong>in</strong>ister <strong>of</strong> Creich, was buried ; who died on <strong>the</strong><br />

13th <strong>in</strong>stant about 8 o'clock at night and about 78 yeircs <strong>of</strong> aidg" (/uy. Cupar Burials).<br />

3. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>- [158S1— 16G1], m<strong>in</strong>ister <strong>of</strong> Moonzie, third but ultimately<br />

only surviv<strong>in</strong>g son <strong>of</strong> Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>of</strong> Pittormie. He matriculated at S. Andrew's<br />

] 60-1-5, and graduated <strong>the</strong>re <strong>in</strong> 1G03 (S.A R. 17-19). He is next named as witness to a<br />

charter granted at Saudfurd 17 .luue 1612, a slight but valuable entry be<strong>ca</strong>use it names<br />

him as " Mr. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, son to Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>in</strong> Cupar," and so places iii.s<br />

parentage 1 eyoud dispute (G S.R. 79). He is but t-ivice mentioned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dundee reeords,<br />

viz., 19 Sept. 1616, as witness to asas<strong>in</strong>e given to John, son <strong>of</strong> tiidrL'e L<strong>in</strong>dsay and (Irissell<br />

<strong>Wedderburn</strong> (D.P.I!. !92), and 25 Oct. lG-17, when he is cho.sen curator to <strong>the</strong> sons <strong>of</strong> his<br />

sister Magdalen (D.B.R. 449). l^'lsewhere his name occurs now and a;,'a<strong>in</strong>, ion <strong>of</strong><br />

Assembly 1645 ;• jo<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>the</strong> protest<strong>in</strong>g party <strong>in</strong> 1651 and ;'' died <strong>in</strong> May 16GI ai.'t'd about<br />

73.* He had two sons <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>istry, Mr. Alexander <strong>of</strong> Forgan and .Mr. James, Ins<br />

colleague " {Fast. Ecd. Scot, ii 505).<br />

By his wife (her name has not been ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed) he had issue three sons<br />

all <strong>of</strong> whom entered <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>istry, and two daughtere :<br />
