ascerta<strong>in</strong>. He was born probably about l-tGO, as his second son Robert must liave been boru<br />

]3 Feb. 1510 {ih. 4), and 14 April 1513 {ih. 6). In <strong>the</strong> firet <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se he is designed " bailie<br />

Dundee," and he is nauicd as hold<strong>in</strong>g a court <strong>in</strong> that <strong>ca</strong>pacity at Dundee 30 June 1513<br />

(D.C. 7). The date <strong>of</strong> his death is not precisely ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed ; he was liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> 1509(S.\V. 4),<br />

but <strong>the</strong>re is a resignation <strong>of</strong> 31 Jan. 1518. tc his wife, <strong>in</strong> which he is not named, so that he<br />

may have been dead at that date (s.W. 6). He was certa<strong>in</strong>ly dead before 25 Sept. 1520,<br />

when <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> deceased Robert Wedderhurn <strong>in</strong> North i^Iaiketgait are<br />

referred to as a boundary (D.C. 11), while <strong>the</strong> land <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Robert Wedderbtmi is also<br />

mentioned as bound<strong>in</strong>g some Welgait land 8 Sept. 1521 (D.P.R. 5), 6 Oct., 24 Nov. 1524<br />

{ih. 8, 10), and also, 24, 25 Nov. 1528, as bound<strong>in</strong>g a South Murraygait property (ib. 30 b).<br />

He is <strong>of</strong>ten mentioned <strong>in</strong> references to his son .lames, who is constantly dist<strong>in</strong>guished fiom<br />

his namesakes as <strong>the</strong> " son <strong>of</strong> Robert," e/j., 21 June 1529 {ih. 32).^<br />

He married, probably about 1485, Janet Proster. dauu'hter <strong>of</strong> David Froster <strong>in</strong><br />

Methven, who is first named 8 Feb. 1509, when her husband settled a North ihu-ravtrait<br />

land ou himself and her <strong>in</strong> conjunct fee, and on <strong>the</strong> survivor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m (S.W. 4). She is<br />

also mentioned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> resignation <strong>of</strong> 1516 (S.W. 6), when Mr. George Feme resigns <strong>in</strong> her<br />

favour all his lands <strong>in</strong> Aberbotliry <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> barony <strong>of</strong> Alith, co. Perth. • She is named as<br />

Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>'s relict <strong>in</strong> a notarial <strong>in</strong>strument, dated 8 Oct. 1530, which narrates <strong>the</strong><br />

settlement by her <strong>of</strong> her North Murraygait land on her son James Wedderhurn, and his son<br />

Robert (S.W. 8), and was liv<strong>in</strong>g 28 Feb. 1531 when some lands '• occupied by Janet Froster<br />

relict <strong>of</strong> Robert Wedderhurn, are granted by James Scrymgeour, constable <strong>of</strong> Dundee to<br />

George Rolloks " (S.SR. 18).<br />

By her, <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> whose death is not ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed, Robert Wedderhurn had issue<br />

five sous and one dan;:liter:<br />

1. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, constantly <strong>ca</strong>lled " Robertis soue " or "son and heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

late Robert" <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dundee Records, ic. See post, pp. 69-71.<br />

The order followed here is that <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir admission as burgesses <strong>of</strong> Dundee;—1514, James; 1516,<br />

Robert ; 1523, David, son <strong>of</strong> (<strong>the</strong> late ?) Robert ; 1527, Alexander, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Jiobert ; and on<br />

<strong>the</strong> same day George, " by <strong>the</strong> liberty <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r," whose name is not given. Fur<strong>the</strong>r, as <strong>the</strong> male<br />

l<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> James soon be<strong>ca</strong>me ext<strong>in</strong>ct. ai:d a.s, iu 1647, we f<strong>in</strong>d Robert's great-great grandson, K<strong>in</strong>gennie,<br />
