Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>" [1550 ?— 15S9?], is firet named 22 Mav I55C, when David<br />

<strong>Wedderburn</strong>, youn-er, is tutor dative to liim, " as son and air <strong>of</strong> Robert Wedderbiiru,<br />

deeeast " (D.B II. Cfi), and, on 13 July <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same year, he was served heir<br />

general to his gnuidfa<strong>the</strong>r, James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> (ih. 6S a). He is mentioned aga<strong>in</strong><br />

18 Dec. 1556, as be<strong>in</strong>g bound to provide a kirk style near <strong>the</strong> Argylisgait, which<br />

one John Anderson is to keej) <strong>in</strong> repair {lb. 70).<br />

He «as cognosced heir to his fatlicr at Dundee, 21 June 1566 (D.B.R. 151), and<br />

7 Oct. <strong>in</strong> that year was entetcd <strong>in</strong> a South Argvlegait land as son and heir <strong>of</strong> hi.spirents,<br />

both <strong>of</strong> whom were <strong>the</strong>n dead (D.P.l!. "l32). At this time he was clearly<br />

under age, James Scrymgeour <strong>of</strong> IJalbeuchlie be<strong>in</strong>g named as his tutor or curator<br />

11 Nov. 15GG and 10 Nov. 1507 (D.B.R. 153, 155 e). There seems to have been<br />

some question about his curatory, a.«, 1'3 Jan. 15G8, he revokes his m<strong>in</strong>oritie acts,<br />

renounces liis curators, James Scrymgeour and John <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, " be<strong>ca</strong>us thai<br />

refusit to do <strong>of</strong>fice to him " and demands a fresh edict <strong>of</strong> curatory (D.B.R. 157).<br />

Perhaps this forced <strong>the</strong> old curators to consent, as James Scrymgeour is named as<br />

factor to Robert, II June 1568 (D.B.R. 164), and both he and John <strong>Wedderburn</strong><br />

are found act<strong>in</strong>g as his curators 8, 15 Oct. <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same year (ih. 169), while aga<strong>in</strong>,<br />

3 June l.'iCO, James Scrymgeour is named as his tutor {il. ] 76 h). He was adm?tted<br />

burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee as <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> Robert ^^edderburn, younger, 16 July 1572<br />

. (D.L.B. 24). .Tn <strong>the</strong> next month, 28 Aug., as son and heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Robert and<br />

grandson and heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, he resigns his South Murray^ait<br />

land to Edward <strong>Wedderburn</strong> (D.P.B. 159), while on 18 July 1573 he makes'<br />

fur<strong>the</strong>r resignation <strong>of</strong> a South Argvlegait land, once his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r's, to Peter,<br />

sou <strong>of</strong> Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, elder {il,. 183).- He <strong>ca</strong>me <strong>of</strong> age probably about 1573,'<br />

and certa<strong>in</strong>ly before 6 May 1575, when he revoked his m<strong>in</strong>ority acts, and <strong>the</strong>re is<br />

no question <strong>of</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r curatore (D.B.R. 215). On 17 May 1575 he was convicted<br />

<strong>of</strong> " <strong>in</strong>vaid<strong>in</strong>g and mispresony<strong>in</strong>g " Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, younger, and was orda<strong>in</strong>ed<br />

to <strong>in</strong>cur penalties and make amends, but <strong>the</strong>re are no details given (//'. 217).- On<br />

9 May 1576 he is siunmoned to appear <strong>in</strong> a proceed<strong>in</strong>g but does not do so, beiuc<br />

" furth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> countrie " (D.B R. 227). In <strong>the</strong> same year, 14 Julv, he is named <strong>in</strong><br />

a disposition by Alexander Wedderbuni to his son Richard <strong>of</strong> Els<strong>in</strong>ore, as hav<strong>in</strong>g at<br />

one time alienated to Alexander a South Cowgait yard (mentioned 25 Feb. 1573<br />

D.P.B. 20G) which he had <strong>in</strong>herited from<br />

his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r. James Wedderbuni'<br />

(S.W. 32) and<br />

; 22 Feb. 1577, he, "younger, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>,"<br />

b<strong>in</strong>ds himself to hand over to Peter Weddcrlurn (post p. 96) one sixteenth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

ship 7'Ae ^oierf (D.B.R. 232).<br />

The date <strong>of</strong> his death is not clear, and <strong>the</strong> evidence <strong>in</strong> regard to it is conflict<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
