work for <strong>the</strong> "bigg<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new school," and gave his oath <strong>of</strong> tidolitv (l)C.li. 11).'^<br />

Later on, 25 Oct. 1597, he is one <strong>of</strong> those who <strong>ca</strong>ll attent<strong>in</strong>n tn <strong>the</strong> foul<strong>in</strong>-<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> couimon<br />

burn by <strong>the</strong> Sk<strong>in</strong>nera' craft, and obta<strong>in</strong> a decree aga<strong>in</strong>st a cont<strong>in</strong>uance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> nuisani'c<br />

(D.C.B. 20). He may oc<strong>ca</strong>sionally have acted as clerk ;/ro leiiipi,,-,', as, 7 Jan. lti(J2, Mr.<br />

Robert Wcdderburn, clerk, is named among tiie connnissionei-s for .settl<strong>in</strong>g disputes between<br />

Perth and Dundee (IM'.C. 22) ; but this is more probablv an eiTor f(jr Alexander.<br />

Hedieda few days after l'^ Oct. 1611, on which dav, at his house <strong>in</strong> Dundee, he f^ave<br />

up his will, confirmed at Brech<strong>in</strong> 7 Juno 1G12 (Br.T. 2), by which he nom<strong>in</strong>ated as Ids<br />

executors James and Peter, sons <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> late clerk, and left v;irious lc;;acies to<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r nephews and nieces. His heir was his nephew Peter (son <strong>of</strong> Peter Wcdderburn and<br />

Margaret K<strong>in</strong>loch), who is so entered 29 Feb. 1612 (D.P.B. .'JSl) and also 5 Jan. KUf)<br />

{ib. 405), and whose <strong>in</strong>heritance from his uncle is mentioned, 13 June 167 7 (l).T.(;. .>'>;.'<br />

There are several references to <strong>the</strong> North Argylcgait and o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong>opcrties <strong>of</strong> l!ol>ert,<br />

<strong>the</strong> notary, after his death (e.^. D.C. 71 ; D.P.B. 430, 434, 437, 486, 488; i'.B.N. 19),<br />

but <strong>the</strong>y are not important.<br />

He married about Sept. 1583 Margaret Myln, daughter to Robert Myln <strong>of</strong><br />

Dundee, <strong>the</strong> marriage contract be<strong>in</strong>g dated 11 Sept.'' (l).B.R. 270). Thereafter he an
