Of <strong>the</strong>se two half bro<strong>the</strong>rs,<br />

1. Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong> [1515 ?— 1551-52],* son and heir <strong>of</strong> James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, i.i<br />

first mentioned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>strument <strong>of</strong> 8 Oct. 1530, by which his grandmo<strong>the</strong>r, Janet Frost'er<br />

made a settlement on him and his fa<strong>the</strong>r (S. \V. 8). As <strong>in</strong> this document he is <strong>ca</strong>lled a<br />

youth or young man, we may assume that he was about fifteen y<strong>ca</strong>i-s <strong>of</strong> a;,'e, and this is<br />

borne out by <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong> his admission as burgess, "iiuia tilius est Jacobl Ivcdderbuni<br />

8 June 1535," when he was probably about twenty (D.L.B. 12). It is he, and not as ha.s<br />

been supposed his namesake and cous<strong>in</strong>, afterwards Vi<strong>ca</strong>r <strong>of</strong> Dundee, wiio is <strong>the</strong> '• Itdbert<br />

son <strong>of</strong> James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee,'"' respited for <strong>the</strong> slaughter <strong>of</strong> Mali.-oni'i<br />

and for all action or crime, 6 .liui. 15:^0 (K.F.S. 4), and he al.so it is who, with his f.i<strong>the</strong>r<br />

and o<strong>the</strong>i-s, is aga<strong>in</strong> respited, 27 July 15-13, for art and part <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> murder <strong>of</strong> I 'avid Uollok,<br />

burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> preced<strong>in</strong>g March {il,. 12). He wnecirs liaiids<br />

through his break<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fence and arrestment made on <strong>the</strong> third ]i,ut uf <strong>the</strong> te<strong>in</strong>d<br />

sheaves <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> kirk <strong>of</strong> Dundee by Alexander Blair, messenger (1M'..S. l.j). He is nau'ed<br />

aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> au action aga<strong>in</strong>st his fa<strong>the</strong>r's widow, Janet Logan, 3 Julv 151G (K..-\.l). 11 ), and<br />

1 April 1547 he, as son and heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, sells his N(]f tli .Mnrravgait<br />

land to his uncle Robert \Vedderburn, elder, and Janet Kyd, his v>ife(S.\V. 12\ The<br />

charter has his signature and his seal,'' and a later endorsement bv <strong>the</strong> f;r.<strong>in</strong>ds()n <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

grantee, Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>of</strong> K<strong>in</strong>gennie. He is <strong>ca</strong>lled " uiun;.'ir " <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dundee<br />

records, <strong>in</strong> dist<strong>in</strong>ction from his uncle just mentioned. Thu.s, 7 Nov. li.'JO, he is so named<br />

(D.B.R. 24 t), and aga<strong>in</strong> 16 March 1551, when he acts as jirocurator (D.B.K. 2Sur,<br />

18 Feb. 1522 (D.B.R. IS a), be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> oUl David \Veilk:'-» nialr. n m—t,<br />
