estate for 1691-94, as receiv<strong>in</strong>sz her annnal rent and as bear<strong>in</strong>g: a share <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> co.st<br />
<strong>of</strong> her sister Margaret's fnneral (S.W. n03-4). From Aiiiriist 169t on she boanled<br />
with her uncle John Wedderbnni <strong>of</strong> Blackness <strong>in</strong> Ed<strong>in</strong>burgh, whence. 2 Sejit. I GOG,<br />
she writes to Thomas Milne <strong>of</strong> Milnetield, factor to her bro<strong>the</strong>r's estate to pay<br />
her uncle £543 8. 4 (scots), which she found she owed him for her two years'<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>tenance, "out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first end <strong>of</strong> what annnal rents my bro<strong>the</strong>r is restii:'; mc "<br />
(S.W 507). A facsimile <strong>of</strong> her signature to this letter faces p. 72 <strong>of</strong> vol. ii. "I'liero<br />
is also a receipt by her to Milutield for £100 paid her on aeeotmt <strong>of</strong> her annnal<br />
rents, 6 Feb. 1G97 (ib. 50S); a bond by Henry Crawford <strong>of</strong> Monnrgaii to her for<br />
four hundred merks 27 May 1706 (R.D'. 27.^), "while a ticket by her" to her cou.siu<br />
Alexander, afterwards second baronet <strong>of</strong> Blackness, for lifty merks on 4 June <strong>in</strong><br />
that year, is named <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> " Judiciall Inventory " <strong>of</strong> his son's estate (.M.P. TJ).-'<br />
She married <strong>in</strong> 1711 Gilbert Ste»:_irt," merchant <strong>in</strong> Ediubur-h, to whom she<br />
brought a tocher <strong>of</strong> ten thousand merks, while he settled twentv-six thousand.<br />
The marriage contract is dated at Wcdderburu, 27 July 1711 (S.W. 5:)8). She is<br />
thus <strong>the</strong> " my cous<strong>in</strong>e Jlrs. Stewart," <strong>of</strong> whom Alexander <strong>Wedderburn</strong>. <strong>the</strong> clerk<br />
(afterwards fourth baronet <strong>of</strong> Blackness), speaks <strong>in</strong> two letters to (Joorje Scton,<br />
1 Sept. 1711 and 30 Jan. 1712, as ow<strong>in</strong>g fifty merks to <strong>the</strong> estate <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late<br />
