i. Cristlna Jameson, wiio is named as his wife 9 May 1''28, when she consents to her<br />
husband alienat<strong>in</strong>g some North Murrayfrait land to Henry AVedderburn (D.P.R. 26),<br />
aud 7 Dec. 1532 when she apa<strong>in</strong> agrees to iiis res-itrnation <strong>of</strong> an a<strong>in</strong>uial rent out <strong>of</strong> that<br />
property, and her husband settles two North Welgait lands on himself, his wife, and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
heirs (iO. 49). This last transaction is registered <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lifcf. Kpii'c. Brech ,- and <strong>in</strong> that<br />
record <strong>of</strong> it l>avid is e.xpressly <strong>ca</strong>lled "elder," so that we are able to certa<strong>in</strong>ly identify<br />
him with <strong>the</strong> husband <strong>of</strong> Crist<strong>in</strong>a Janeson. She must have died soon after, as <strong>in</strong> .July<br />
1534 David was <strong>the</strong> fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> a son by ano<strong>the</strong>r wife. The fashion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> time seems to<br />
have favoured immediate remarriage^ She had issue one daughter,<br />
Isobell <strong>Wedderburn</strong>* [<br />
1 .530 ?— 158-") ?] m. 15.08 Alexander Ki/d. She is first named<br />
22 Dec. 1558, when her husband settles a Nortli Marketgait property on himself and<br />
her and <strong>the</strong>ir issue (D.P.B. 87). Two days later, 2t Dec . her fa<strong>the</strong>r acknowledged<br />
that <strong>the</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> her marriage contract had been duly fulfilled {ib. 88). She and<br />
herhusband are subsequently mentioned 30 June 15H9 (D.P.H. 141), 20 July, 11 Aug.<br />
1574 {lb. 165a) ; 19 May 1578 {ib. 207 c). An Isobell<strong>Wedderburn</strong>, not' designed,<br />
who is a witness 5 Aug. 1578 (D.B.K. 241 c), and who is named as own<strong>in</strong>g a house<br />
19-24 May 1581 (//*. 260 a), is no doubt she. She and her husband and <strong>the</strong>ir son,<br />
Alexander, are named 22 May 1581 (D.l'.B. 213^0, 3 July and 19 Sept. 1584 {ib.<br />
239, 246). Siie died between <strong>the</strong>n and 9 April 1586, when her son John discharges<br />
his fa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> all that is due to him through <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>r (D.B.ll. 278).<br />
ii. Helen Lawson/ first named 30 July 1534, when she consents to <strong>the</strong> settlement<br />
<strong>of</strong> a South Seagait land on <strong>the</strong>ir son .lames (D.P.B. 52). She is also mentioned <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
charters <strong>of</strong> Craigie and <strong>the</strong> ma<strong>in</strong>s <strong>of</strong> Huntlie already dealt with (R.P.S. 6, 7, 20 ; G.S.R.,<br />
26, 30, 31). There are a few separate references to her, e.g.. 19 July 1557, when she was<br />
party to an arbitration (D.B.R. 74), and, 3 April 1559, when she bound herself to provide for<br />
her daughter Magdalen (;6. 86). Bv her, who survived her <strong>in</strong>isband and was liv<strong>in</strong>g his<br />
relict as late as 20 April 1568 (D.P.B. 149 rp.; D.li.R. 147), David Wedderbnrn had issue<br />
two sons and two daugiiters^ :<br />
1. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>of</strong> CraiL^ie. See post, p. 60.<br />
2. WilUam <strong>Wedderburn</strong>*^ [1536^—1595?]. He is first named 18 April 1543 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
gift to him and his bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> escheat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir fa<strong>the</strong>r's goods (R.P.S. 10), after<br />
whicii <strong>the</strong>re is no mention <strong>of</strong> him until 5 May 1552, when he witnesses a receipt<br />
signed by his fa<strong>the</strong>r (D BR. 35). He was concerned with his fa<strong>the</strong>r ami bro<strong>the</strong>r<br />
<strong>in</strong> a breach <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burgh laws, and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> assault on Robert Merschell, already<br />
mentioned, was convicted 30 Oct., 3 Nov. 1553 (D.B.R. 45). but got a remission<br />
on 14 Dec. follow<strong>in</strong>g (R.P.S. 21). He was admitted burgess <strong>of</strong> Dundee, 15 Nov. 1554,<br />
six years before his eld'-r bro<strong>the</strong>r, James {ib. 20). In one p'ace, 16 Nov. 1554, he<br />
is <strong>ca</strong>lled " out-reddar" <strong>of</strong> liis fa<strong>the</strong>r's ship <strong>the</strong> James (D.B.R. 58), but <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
references to him <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dundee records dur<strong>in</strong>g his fa<strong>the</strong>r's life are slight.' In<br />
1560, Oct. 4, he was a councillor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> burgh (D.B.R. 97), and <strong>in</strong> that year,<br />
