David "<strong>Wedderburn</strong>^ [1440 1—1496 ?] <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Murraygait <strong>of</strong> Dmnlco. The earliest<br />
references to <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> WeJderburn <strong>in</strong> connection with Dundee are to a pei-son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
name <strong>of</strong> David. Thus, one <strong>of</strong> an <strong>in</strong>quest, Itj April 14Gt, for tlio retour <strong>of</strong> .Marjorie do<br />
Strazawquliyn as heir to her sister Elizabeth <strong>in</strong> tlie lands <strong>of</strong> Kviiijennv is David Wedderbuni,<br />
whose seal, bear<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> aruis <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> family, is still attached" to tlie document<br />
(S.W. 1).- He is named aga<strong>in</strong> as a witness to a grant made at Aljernetiiy 7 Aug.<br />
1476, and is tlien designed " scutifer " (G.S.R. 6)-'; to ano<strong>the</strong>r grant, also made at<br />
Abernethy, 9 March 1481 (G.S.R. 5); to an obligation, 22 April 1 481 (The Dowilas<br />
Book III, 1 17 ); to a sas<strong>in</strong>e 27 April 1 484 (S.W. 2) ; to ano<strong>the</strong>r grant witnessed at I Juiideo<br />
7 Jan. 1485, <strong>in</strong> which he is aga<strong>in</strong> designed "scutifer" (G S.R. 7) ; to ano<strong>the</strong>r obli'.,'atioii<br />
12 May 14S7 {The Douglas Book III, 120) ; and to four o<strong>the</strong>r grants, 3 Fe!i. (a charter<br />
to <strong>the</strong> church <strong>of</strong> Dundee), 17 July 1490, and 26 Oct. 149'), all made at Dmidee and confirmed<br />
1491-96 under <strong>the</strong> Great Seal (G.S.R. 8-10) He is also named <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> so-<strong>ca</strong>lled<br />
""Book <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Church" as be<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> council <strong>of</strong> Dundee <strong>in</strong> 1400 (D.B.R. 1). T<strong>in</strong>t all<br />
<strong>the</strong>se references are to <strong>the</strong> same David is not certa<strong>in</strong>, but it is lu:;lily probable, as we know<br />
him to have died before July 1497, and <strong>the</strong> name drops out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> rccord.s until <strong>the</strong> time <strong>of</strong><br />
his son. He was <strong>the</strong> owner <strong>of</strong> property <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Murraygait <strong>of</strong> Dunde-,", which is <strong>of</strong>ten<br />
referred to <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> records. Thus <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late David Weddcrliuru are named as<br />
<strong>the</strong> Eastern boundary <strong>of</strong> certa<strong>in</strong> otlier North .Murraygait lauds, .'W July 1001 (U A.I). 4)<br />
and "<strong>the</strong> heirs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late David <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>in</strong> South Murravgait " arc named .'i Xov.<br />
1518 (D.P.B. la). He died between 26 Oct. 14'J5 (G.S R. 10) and 8 July 1497 when<br />
sas<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> an annual rent out <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> South ^lurraygait property is k'^'^-'" to Cri-^tian<br />

By his wife, Cristian Anderson, he left two sons and possibly some daughters.*<br />
The sons were James and I 'avid, but <strong>the</strong>re is notli<strong>in</strong>g to show which was tiic elder. This<br />
is, however, immaterial as it is clear that James d. s.p. Of <strong>the</strong>m<br />

2. James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>'' [1435?— 1524] is named with his bro<strong>the</strong>r David 12 Xijv. 1521<br />
(D.P.B. 6), but died before 28 Oct. 1524, when David <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, son <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lata<br />
David <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, and bro<strong>the</strong>r and heir <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late James <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, rc:>igns a<br />
