^igx;i,,)(ii_>r Wcilderbuni <strong>of</strong> K<strong>in</strong>gcimie and Helen Ramsay, was born probably <strong>in</strong> 1583-84,-<br />
as he matrienUi'ed at S. Andrew's <strong>in</strong> 15'J6 (S.A.U. 12), tliongh <strong>the</strong>re is no record <strong>of</strong> his<br />
graduat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>re. He was bred to <strong>the</strong> law, under his fa<strong>the</strong>r, and some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earliest<br />

this appo<strong>in</strong>tment, as <strong>the</strong>re is extant (S.W. l-'>8) a letter from K<strong>in</strong>g James VI. to <strong>the</strong><br />
commissioners <strong>of</strong> burghs, <strong>in</strong> which he overrules any such contentions, and confirms <strong>the</strong><br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ation <strong>of</strong> young <strong>Wedderburn</strong>. This letter, which is superscribed, James R., <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
K<strong>in</strong>g's hand, is as follows :<br />
