1. Grizel <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, who, on <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> her bro<strong>the</strong>r David <strong>in</strong> 17G1, succeeded<br />

to his estates, as heiress <strong>of</strong> <strong>Wedderburn</strong>. See post, p. I'i7.<br />

2. Rachel <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, born 3 April 1707, and died <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lifetime <strong>of</strong> her fa<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Peter <strong>Wedderburn</strong>' [1708-14], si.\th <strong>of</strong> K<strong>in</strong>gennie, fourth <strong>of</strong> Easter PowTie, and<br />

second <strong>of</strong> that illc, third but eldest snrviviiiir son and heir <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r, was boru<br />

19 June 1708 {ut sup., p.lG3, n. 6). He is named <strong>in</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r's will (S.W. 541 itt sup.), as<br />

eldest son, and, 3 Feb. 1714, after his fa<strong>the</strong>r's death, when David Drisbane, his factor, gets a<br />

decree on his behalf for sums due to his fa<strong>the</strong>r (D.Dec. 69), to whom he was retoured heir<br />

special <strong>in</strong> <strong>Wedderburn</strong> or Powrie, and <strong>in</strong> Wester Gourdie 2.5 Feb. 1714 (S W. 543;<br />

K.H. 32). The precept for his <strong>in</strong>feft<strong>in</strong>ent as such heir <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>se estates is dated 21 April<br />

(S.AV. 544), and sas<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong>reon is given at <strong>the</strong> "tower, fortalice, and manor place <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Wedderburn</strong> " 29 April 1714 [iL 545; F.S. 89). He died 10 May 1714, a date given <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> retour <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r David as heir to him iu <strong>the</strong> family estates (S.W. 5G5 : RH.<br />

David <strong>Wedderburn</strong>'* [1 710— 1<br />

701], seventh <strong>of</strong> K<strong>in</strong>gennie, fifth <strong>of</strong> Powrie, and third<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, fourth but only surviv<strong>in</strong>g son <strong>of</strong> Jiis fa<strong>the</strong>r, was born 21 April 1710 (ut<br />

sup., p. 1G3, n. G). He is named as second (surviv<strong>in</strong>g! son <strong>in</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r's will, 4 Nov. 1713<br />

(S.W. 5tl), but, as we have seen, on <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong> his bro<strong>the</strong>r Peter, 10 May 1714, he succeeded<br />

to <strong>the</strong> family estates <strong>in</strong> which he was retoured heir, Feb.-March 1715 (S.W. 54G-48,<br />

565; R.H. 33; F.S. 90); and he was abso cognosced heir to his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r <strong>in</strong> a North Overgait<br />

tenement, 13 Feb. 1715 (D.P B. 589) ;'' while, two years later, 20 Feb. 1717, <strong>the</strong>re is a<br />

precept <strong>of</strong> clare constat by <strong>the</strong> commissioners to <strong>the</strong> Duke <strong>of</strong> Douglas to <strong>in</strong>feft him <strong>in</strong><br />

J K<strong>in</strong>gennie as his fa<strong>the</strong>r's heir, on which sas<strong>in</strong>e follows 4 May (S.W. 552-53 ; F.S. 92).<br />

Iu 1719 Oct 5 he, as his fa<strong>the</strong>r's heir, got sas<strong>in</strong>e <strong>of</strong> an atnnial rent (U.R S. G3), and<br />

7 Nov. 1722 got confirmation, as executor dative and next-<strong>of</strong>-k<strong>in</strong>, <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> will <strong>of</strong> his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r,<br />

Easter Powrie (S.A.T. 13). O<strong>the</strong>r references to his succession dur<strong>in</strong>g his m<strong>in</strong>ority<br />

will be found, 6 Dec. 1724, when <strong>the</strong> division <strong>of</strong> property between him and his sister<br />

Grissell was a matter <strong>of</strong> doubt (S.W. 5G0) ; and, 19 July 1729, when <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>ister <strong>of</strong> LifT<br />

brought an action (for his stipend ?) aga<strong>in</strong>st him as only son and heir retoured <strong>of</strong> hi.s<br />

' "Robert <strong>Wedderburn</strong>, son to <strong>the</strong> laird <strong>of</strong> that ilk " is a witnesi!,16 Feb. 170S, to <strong>the</strong> hapti.xm <strong>of</strong> Robert<br />

<strong>Wedderburn</strong>, afterwards <strong>of</strong> Pearsie (D.B. 59j. He was, <strong>of</strong> course, but two years old, but <strong>the</strong> entry <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> eveu <strong>in</strong>fants ai name parents or witnesses to baptisms i.s very common. Thus, Kachel,<br />

"daughter to Alesaader <strong>Wedderburn</strong> <strong>of</strong> th.it ilk." who was godmo<strong>the</strong>r, 15 Sept. 1707, at Dundee to<br />

Rachel, daughter to William L<strong>in</strong>dsay, may possibly be his sister, <strong>the</strong>n barely six months old (i4. s.d.<br />

and see ante, p. 161, n 'J).<br />

The mention, 21 Oct 1714, <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r's bond <strong>of</strong> provision to him (S.W. 542 .s.d.) is thus after his death,<br />

<strong>in</strong> consequence <strong>of</strong> which his si.stcr Grizel was afterwards, 9 Aug. 1716. confirmed e.\ccutrix to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r, as "com<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> place <strong>of</strong> Peter, who was executor nom<strong>in</strong>ate by tlie fa<strong>the</strong>r " (i6. s d.) ; and<br />

2 Aug. 1720 <strong>the</strong>re is an order to make up a separate account <strong>of</strong> Gri.=scll's executory by <strong>the</strong> death <strong>of</strong><br />

her fa<strong>the</strong>r and bro<strong>the</strong>is," i.e., Peter and Uill.ert (t.6., s.d). An entry. 171.3-14, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dundee<br />

Mortcloth Pues(D.M.I>. 44) kx.ksasif Peter, Gilbert, and lUchel had all died at about <strong>the</strong> same<br />

time, probiibly from <strong>in</strong>fectious illness.<br />
