discharge by Haliburton to his brothcr-<strong>in</strong> law 31 .May 1627 (S W. 22^), and an<br />

as.signation, 12 Jiuie 1629, by Macdalen to her husband <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> above montioncd<br />

bond <strong>of</strong> 1621 (DC. 73). On 17 May 1032 she and her husband, who had been<br />

appo<strong>in</strong>ted a lord <strong>of</strong> session 8 Nov. 1627 <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> place <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> late Lord Kilsvth. got<br />

J'odderanee was knighted, 14 July 1633. He is named <strong>in</strong> .March 1616 as n witness<br />

to <strong>the</strong> baptism <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> third daughter <strong>of</strong> Sir Alexander WL-dder!iurn <strong>of</strong> Blackness<br />

(D.B. 2), Helen, who, n<strong>in</strong>eteen years later <strong>in</strong> 1665, married <strong>the</strong> son <strong>of</strong> John Dickson<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hartrie, who had succeeded Haliburton on <strong>the</strong> bench on his death mm)u after<br />

15 March 1649. The date <strong>of</strong> Magdalene <strong>Wedderburn</strong>'s deatii is not i|uiti' elear.-<br />

Th(Te is a bond (S.W. 296 -, 31 Dee. 1646. by her daughter .Margaret We.i.UTburn,<br />

which seems to imply her decease, b\it <strong>the</strong>re is also recorded an aN>i'_'uation <strong>of</strong> 7 Jan.<br />

to Marjory Haliburton and John Ogilvy <strong>of</strong> Lownan her spou>e (U D. 162) which is<br />

quite <strong>in</strong>consistent with her deatli ei<strong>the</strong>r before 1646 or at all <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> lift-lime <strong>of</strong> her<br />

second husband. By her second marriage she had issue, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> above-named<br />

Marjory."<br />

3. Margaret Wedderbtu-n.* She is first-named 13 Oct. 1006, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> settlement by her<br />

fa<strong>the</strong>r on her, her sister Magdalen, and <strong>the</strong>ir bro<strong>the</strong>r James (1). I'. B. ;i'j.')). She<br />

reaiTied 'iU<strong>in</strong>nax Hahihnrton, eldest son <strong>of</strong> Thomas lialyliurton. dian <strong>of</strong> gild, and<br />

later, provost <strong>of</strong> Dundee. 'J'he date <strong>of</strong> this marriage is not iiuito clear. There is<br />

a marriage contract 2 Dec. 161:") (.S.W. 187), which seems not to iiavc been acted<br />

on, as nearly fifteen months later, 25 Feb. 1617, <strong>the</strong>re is ano<strong>the</strong>r such contract<br />

(ih. 192), on which sas<strong>in</strong>e follows <strong>the</strong> same day (//'. 193). In both <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m her tocher<br />

is stated at 4,000 merks. In 1618, A[)ril 24, <strong>the</strong> .-pouscs ;;et ^a^<strong>in</strong>l. <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>of</strong><br />
