Migrant smuggler
A person who intentionally, in order to obtain,
directly or indirectly, a financial or other material
benefit, is involved in the smuggling of migrants.
Smuggling of migrants
According to articles 3 and 6 of the United
Nations Protocol against the Smuggling of
Migrants by Land, Sea and Air, smuggling of
migrants encompasses, in order to obtain directly
or indirectly a financial or material benefit, the
procurement or facilitation of a person’s illegal
entry or illegal stay in a country of which the
person is not a national or a permanent resident.
Smuggled migrant
A person whose illegal entry or stay in a country
of which he or she is not a national or permanent
resident has been facilitated by another person
for the purpose of deriving financial or other
material benefit.
