3.1.5 Time Series Retrieval from HEC-DSSA software application must interpret the HEC-DSS time series catalogand know which time series records apply to a particular model feature. This isdone for HEC-HMS by means of the hydrologic element’s name stored in the "B"pathname part in DSS and with ownership on the time series data. For HEC-RASthe DSS time series retrieval is done by means of the entire DSS pathname whichis referenced in the flow file by a software application in charge of updating theinput files for HEC-RAS.3.1.6 Automated WorkflowAn automated workflow sequence must be created to sequentially executethe tasks needed to accomplish the hydrologic and hydraulic model executionsand the data flow between them and the GIS. This is done with a customizedimplementation of the ArcGIS Model Builder called Map2Map, which includes inpart tools that are generic to the GIS and in part customized tools that werecreated in this research.3.2 CASE STUDY: THE SAN ANTONIO RIVER BASINThis research is being developed for the San Antonio River Basin (4,000sq. miles) in Texas, which comprises a diverse basin including regulatedsubbasins and complex urban drainage systems that flow south-east towards theGulf of Mexico.A subbasin of the San Antonio River basin, Salado Creek (222 sq. miles)and its tributary, the Rosillo Creek (29 sq. miles) were used as the pilot basins dueto the availability of 2-foot contour lines from land surveys to characterize the28
