For HEC-RAS, the connectivity is accomplished <strong>by</strong> knowing which crosssection is associated with the previous hydrologic features (HMSCodedelements). This implies knowing which river, reach and stationing the crosssectionlies on, e.g. “Rosillo, Upper, 93528.56”. This identifier represents asequence of comma-delimited elements herein defined as RASCodes.Ideally, this model codification should obey a systematic namingconvention for watersheds, streams, reaches, etc. to be applied throughout theentire San Antonio basin. A proposed generic naming convention has beenadopted <strong>by</strong> the Florida Water District’s (Southwest Florida Water ManagementDistrict, 2002).To enable connectivity between the proposed H&H models, thegeographic connectivity features (SchematicNodes and CrossSections) have to belabeled with the corresponding HMSCode and RASCode values. For the HEC-RAS features, the cross sections, this task might be straight forward if theGeoRAS interface was used to create them since the StreamCode, ReachCode,and Measure/Station values are created <strong>by</strong> the interface and the three values cansimply be concatenated to get the three components of the RASCode attribute.For the HEC-1 or HEC-HMS models that are normally available, thislabeling has to be done manually unless some protocol for systematic namingconvention of modeling elements is adopted as proposed <strong>by</strong> the initiatives of theSouthwest Florida Water Management District’s procedures manual, in whichcase the task might be automated.49
