3.5.6 Model Connectivity in Arc HydroOnce the correct geographic representation of the basins to be simulated isstored in the geodatabase format, the connectivity elements can be created. ThisGeographically Integrated Regional Watershed Modeling System is based on theideas shown in Figure 3.17 for model connectivity. For this integration somerelationship classes need to be created and populated defining the Model Codesfor each of the integrated engineering models.Under this geographic integration, the Schematic Node feature class ispopulated with the HMSCodes from HEC-HMS as stored in the B part of the DSSpathname for each of the outlet nodes. In turn, the FeatureID field in theschematic nodes needs to be populated with the HydroID of the HydroJunction itrepresents. By means of this field association the relationship class“HydroJunctionHasSchematicNode” can be built. By doing this, theHydroJunctions now know which HMS outlet node they represent. Next, theJunctionID field in the Cross Section feature class is populated with the HydroIDof the HydroJunction that is exchanging flow into a given downstream crosssection. Thus, the HydroJunctions now know which flow receiving cross sectionit is related to. Under this spatial scheme the hydrologic elements (outlet-nodes)can be related to the hydraulic elements (cross sections). For the flow of time series information between model elements, thestreamflow records related to the hydrologic elements by means of the HMSCode(which exists in the schematic nodes) can now be associated with the crosssections. With these built-in relationships we can transfer time series information54
