168 COMMONS JOURNAL, APRIL 17, 1758–MAY 19, 1758And then the House adjourned till To morrow Morning Nine of the Clock.Wednesday the 26th of April 1758.The Journal of Yesterdays Proceedings was read.Ordered That it be an Instruction to the Committee who were appointedto Audit the Accounts of the Public Treasurer [to] Examine the Stateof the Accounts of the Tax Collected for defraying the Charges of this Governmentfor the Year Ending the 25th day of March 1756 & that they do reportthe Same as it appears to them to the House.“An additional Bill to the Acts for the better Relief of the Poor of thisProvince” was read a Second time, with Blanks which were filled up, andSeveral Amendments were made by the House to the Bill.Ordered That Mr. Laurens do Carry the Bill to the Council.“A Bill Establishing a Road Lately Laid out from Tippicut-Law old Feildin St. Johns Parish to Murrays Ferry Road in St. Stephens Parish & for discontinuingsuch Part of Murray’s Ferry Road as is therein mentioned,” wasread a Second time.Ordered that Mr. Moultrie do Carry the Bill to the Council.The House being informed that Mr. Doyley from the Commissarys Officeattended at the Door, he was Called in & presented to the House pursuantto the Governors Order,List of the Officers who have removed from their Quarters before the30th of November and of those who never had any assigned them. 14And then he withdrew.And the Said List was read.Order’d that the Said List be referred to the Consideration of the Committeeappointed to Audit the Accounts of the Creditors of the Public.A Motion was made and the Question being put that the Report fromthe Committee appointed to inspect the Severall Laws for Establishing Ferriesin this Province be now taken into Consideration.It Passed in the Negative.Order’d that the Said Report be Considered to Morrow Morning.“A Bill vesting Ashley Ferry in the Public Treasurer for the time beingfor the use of the Public, And for Keeping the Causey Leading to the saidFerry in repair” was read a third time.Resolved that the Bill do pass, and that the Title be “an Act vestingAshley Ferry in the Public Treasurer for the Time being & for Keeping theCausey Leading to the Said Ferry in repair.”14See below, p. 172.
