JUNE 19, 1760661as also to the seven Companies of Rangers, and three Companies ofProvincials which were resolved by this House to be continued in the service& pay of this Province till the 1st Day of August next.The House proceeded to read “a Bill for establishing and regulating theArtillery Company which was formed out of the Militia in Charles-Town,” aSecond time, and having made some Progress therein.Ordered, That the further Consideration of the Bill be adjourned.A Message from the Lieutenant Governor by Mr. Bassnett.Mr. Speaker,The Lieutenant Governor sends this House two Letters lately receivedfrom England.And then the Messenger withdrew.And the said Letters were severally read, one being from Samuel MartinEsqr., Secretary to The Lords Commissioners of His Majesty’s Treasuryto Governor Lyttelton, dated Treasury Chambers 19th March 1760, purportingthat their Lordships had ordered him to acquaint his Excellency, thatthey chose rather to issue the Money (belonging to this Province, Part of£50,000 granted by Parliament) to the Agent of this Province, on his givingSecurity for payment thereof to such Person or Persons as shall beimpowered by the Governor, Council and Assembly, to receive the same forthis Province, than to let it remain useless in the Exchequer; And that theirLordships desire the Governor would use his Endeavours that a proper Personor Persons may be appointed to receive such Monies as Parliament mayhereafter think fit to grant for the Service of this Province that there maybe no delay in the issuing thereof.And the other Letter was from James Wright Esqr., Agent for this Provincein Great Britain, to Governor Lyttelton dated London 5th April 1760,upon the same Subject.And then the House adjourned till to-morrow Morning, Ten of the Clock.Thursday the 19th Day of June 1760.Read the Journals of Yesterday’s Proceedings.According to Order the following Address was drawn, vizt.May it please Your Honour,As we shall be at a loss to know what Provision to make for paying theRegiment, and Seven Troops of Rangers, voted this Session to be raised forthe Defence of the Province, as likewise the three Provincial Companies, tillwe are informed of the number of Men which these several Corps consist of;we therefore humbly desire that Your Honour will be pleased to order theMuster Rolls of the said respective Corps to be laid before this House.
