OCTOBER 11, 1760771We are extremely concern’d to find your Honour has not already acquaintedGeneral Amherst with our Situation; & as it is of the greatest Moment,that his Excellency shou’d be inform’d therewith as soon as possible,we depend that your Honour will lose no further Time in laying before hima full State of our Affairs: And we doubt not that, with his Assistance, join’dto the Aid we may reasonably expect from North-Carolina & Virginia, we shallmake the Indians repent that they ever committed any Outrages on HisMajesty’s Subjects of this and the neighbouring Provinces.As the Indians, after their first Overtures for a Peace, to which yourHonour listen’d, have most treacherously & barbarously massacred Part ofthe Garrison of Fort Loudoun, we cannot but look upon their repeatingthese Overtures as an Insult upon this Government; however, if your Honourhas or shou’d agree to the Proposals of the Indians for a mutual exchangeof Prisoners, & shou’d send the Indian Prisoners, now in our Custody, outof Charles-town, we hope it will be with a very strong Escort: For if the Partythat guards them is weak, we have reason, from the repeated treachery ofthe Indians, to expect that your Honour’s good intentions to procure thelives & liberty of a great number of His Majesty’s Subjects will be frustrated;&, that, instead thereof, an additional number of our fellow Subjects will fallinto their hands: Which we are under some apprehensions may be the fateof the neglected Garrison of Fort Prince George, when we consider how longthey have been in the greatest distress for want of relief.As we are convinced, that nothing but the severest Chastisement willever procure from that perfidious People a firm & honorable Peace, we assureyour Honour that we shall not be wanting, on our part to the extent ofour Abilities, to facilitate & forward those Preparations that have alreadybeen made, or such further Services as shall be necessary to be undertakenfor carrying on the War with vigor; not to vindicate our honour only, but tosupport the common Cause of our Country, and effectually to secure theProvince from the like Barbarities & Devastation for the future.Resolved, That the said Address be presented to the Lieutenant-Governorby the whole House.Ordered, That Mr. Mazyck & Mr. Parsons do wait upon the Lieutenant-Governor, & humbly know when his Honour will please to be attended bythe House.And then the House adjourned till to-morrow Morning, Ten of theClock.Saturday the 11th Day of October 1760.Read the Journals of Yesterday’s Proceedings.
