MAY 2, 1758183Resolved that £928:9:1 being Ballance in the Fund arising by Tax onGoods Sold at Auction in Charles Town be applied in aid of the Tax to beraised for the Year Ending the 24th March Last.Resolved that £7038:18:7, being Surplus of the Country Proportion of theTax raised for the year ending the 24th March 1755, be applied in aid of theCountry Proportion of the Present Tax.Resolved that £101:15:10, being Surplus of the Town Proportion of thesame Tax, be applied [in] aid of the Town Proportion of the Present Tax.Resolved that £12 be inserted in the Schedule to the Tax Bill to pay theTreasurer for an Eight Pounds & Four Pounds issued in the Year 1740 for theimmediate releif of Georgia & Defence of this Province which were Cancelled& destroyed by the said Committee.Then the House proceeded to take the Report from the Committee appointedto audit the Commissarys Accounts into Consideration.And the said Report being read a Second time.Ordered That an Address be prepared to be presented to the Governorhumbly to desire that his Excellency will please to Order the Commissarynot to pay an Additional Pay to the Men of the Independant Companies,from the 18th January Last, being the day this House resolv’d to Provide forthe Expence of Sending Provisions to the Garrisons in Lieu of the said AdditionalPay.Mr. Lamboll reported from the Committee to whom the GovernorsMessage in relation to making provission for the Carolina Regiment for oneyear Longer was referred, that the Committee had Considered the matterof the said Message & had directed him to report their Opinion thereuponto the House & he read the Report in his Place and afterwards delivered itin at the Clerks Table, Where the same was read & is as follows, Viz.The Committee have Inquired into the Present State of the Fund providedfor defraying the Charges of the Carolina Regiment, intended to Consistof Seven Companies for one Year, to End the fifth of July next, & find bythe Treasurers Account thereof, that besides the Expence of Cloathing sentfor to Great Britain & other Charges & Disbursements incurr’d to this Time& also deducting the Sum of £20,000 Lately resolved by the House to be taken& used for raising a Body of Cherokee Indians to march to the Assistanceof His Majestys Northern Collonies against our Enemies there, is Still remainingunexpended upwards of £75,000 Current Money, which the Committeeare of Opinion will be Sufficient to defray the Levi-money & pay off the wholeRegiment a Considerable Time Longer after the Said Year Shall be Expired,and therefore think it will be unnecessary to make any additions thereto.The Committee humbly conceive the making Draughts from the Militiato Compleat the said Regiment is unconstitutional.
