MARCH 14, 1760483Mr. Crawford reported from the Committee who were appointed todraw up an Address upon the Resolution of last Tuesday, that they had preparedan Address accordingly; which they had directed him to report to theHouse, and he read the Report in his Place, and afterwards delivered it inat the Clerk’s Table; where the same was read, and is as follows, viz.May it please your Excellency,We, His Majesty’s most dutiful and loyal Subjects the Commons Houseof Assembly of this Province, beg leave to thank your Excellency for yourSpeech deliver’d to us last Tuesday in General Assembly.Altho’ it is with real concern, in this time of Public Calamity and Danger,that we receive the Intimation of your Excellency’s removal from thisGovernment, being well assured of your good Intentions to serve it’s mostimportant Interests; yet as this Event is the Effect of His Majesty’s Royal Pleasure,attended with your appointment to the Government of Jamaica, wethink it our duty, while we acquiesce in the Will of our Sovereign, at the sametime, to congratulate your Excellency on so distinguishing a Mark of theRoyal Favour.As your Excellency is soon to embark for Great-Britain, we take thisOpportunity of thanking You sincerely for Your careful, spirited and disinterestedAdministration of this Government, and for Your good Wishes sowarmly express’d towards this Province. May Your Voyage be prosperous,may Health and Happiness ever attend You, and may all those Accomplishmentswherewith You are so amply furnish’d be render’d still more conspicuousin the Service of your Country thro’ all your future Life.The said Address being read a Second time;A Motion was made, and the Question being put, That notice might betaken, in the Address, of that part of His Excellency’s Speech which relatesto His Majesty’s appointment of the Honorable William Bull Esqr., LieutenantGovernor of this Province, to act in the Administration here, until theArrival of His Excellency Thomas Pownall Esqr., whom The King has appointedto succeed His Excellency Governor Lyttelton in this Government.It passed in the Negative.The last Paragraph of the Address, was, upon the Question being putthereupon, agreed to by the House.Resolved, That the Address be presented to His Excellency by the wholeHouse.Ordered, That Mr. Middleton and Mr. Pinckney do wait upon The Governorand humbly know His Excellency’s Pleasure when he will be attendedby the House.Ordered, That a Message be prepared to be sent to The Governor andCouncil for issuing a new Writ of Election for St. Peter’s Parish.
